Fusion for Energy (F4E) is the European Union’s Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy. The organisation was created under the Euratom Treaty by a decision of the Council of the European Union in order to meet three objectives:

F4E is responsible for providing Europe’s contribution to ITER, the world’s largest scientific partnership that aims to demonstrate fusion as a v

The ITER liquid nitrogen plant shows its cooling power ❄️

The European teams at the ITER cryoplant have completed the commissioning of the liquid nitrogen plant, now ready for service.

Fusion For Energy, Air Liquide and ITER Organization worked together to prepare and test the cryogenic infrastructure.

Compressors, tanks and cold boxes operated in unison to liquefy nitrogen and gradually bring it down to 80 K (-193 °C).

👏 What a cool achievement!

ITER’s Inner Vertical Targets are taking shape!

Europe’s factories are rolling to manufacture the Divertor Inner Vertical Targets.

🛡️🔥These components, armoured with tungsten, will face the extreme heat from the ITER plasma.

Our supplier Research Instruments has started the assembly of the first units, mounting the plasma-facing parts onto the steel structures.

It’s a key step in series production, helping validate design choices and fabrication processes.

Proud to see the components come together — keep up the teamwork! 👏

Europe delivers its first ITER in-vessel components ✅

Fusion For Energy (F4E) and Simicspa celebrated in Camerana the completion of four Divertor Cassette bodies.

It’s a huge manufacturing feat, which rewards a strong industrial partnership and shows the skill of our fusion supply chain.

The components will sit at the bottom of the tokamak, where they will endure the extreme heat flux of particles escaping the plasma.

🤝Made in Italy, for Europe.

This success belongs to the talented teams of F4E, SIMIC and ITER Organization – thank you!

The MITICA Beam Source is off to Padova! 🚛✨

The system built by ALSYMEX for Fusion For Energy left the Tarbes workshop (France) and is heading to the Neutral Beam Test Facility (Italy).

Inside the crate is the result of a decade of teamwork in Europe to manufacture, assemble and test a cutting-edge technology, now ready to demonstrate its heating power for .

We can’t wait to see it in action!

👏 Thank you to all the partners involved ITER Consorzio RFX Padova

Perfect landing! A new European Vacuum Vessel sector is in place. 🎯

ITER Organization transferred sector module 4 from the Assembly Hall into the Tokamak Pit.

36 hours of synchronised teamwork to move a 1,100-tonne load with flawless precision.

Each module integrates one Vacuum Vessel sector, two Toroidal Field Coils, plus thermal shields.

🖐️This makes it 5 out of 9 now installed – well done!

EC-23 lights up in Barcelona: a wave of expertise and ideas to power fusion!⚡

Fusion For Energy hosted the 23rd Joint Workshop on Electron Cyclotron Emission and Resonance Heating (EC-23) this week.

We gathered 150 international experts, the highest turnout ever for this biennial scientific event created in 1979.

The workshop offered a deep dive into EC physics, experiments and technologies, with updates from labs, universities, start-ups, and public agencies from across the world.

F4E experts took the stage to present the progress in technologies like gyrotrons, launchers or diagnostics, which are a unique benchmark in the field.

Plus, two fascinating visits to Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación and Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC).

Waveguides made in Europe: the pipeline from prototype to industrial capability ⏩

will rely on European waveguides to channel powerful heating microwaves inside the reactor. These are no conventional pipes, as they must endure harsh thermal and mechanical loads and minimise losses thanks to a corrugated inner surface.

Fusion For Energy (F4E) is working with European industry to develop the processes and know-how to master this technology. And we’re getting there.

Research Instruments Gmbh and Tiefbohrbär GmbH, in collaboration with our contractors IDOM and ALSYMEX, delivered a 1.7-meter-long prototype, a key step towards series manufacturing.

Next, the unit will travel to EPFL for high-power radio frequency tests.

✅We’re proud to see our investment turning into advanced production lines ready to be set in motion!

A new spin for the Vacuum Vessel assembly 🔄

Just one week after arriving at ITER, Europe’s Vacuum Vessel sector 3 was flipped to speed up its sub-assembly.

Using a special outdoor gantry crane, ITER Organization and Mammoet carried out the precise rotation of the 400-tonne component.

👏 A heavy operation, smoothly executed. Well done!

A unique technology manufactured and a partnership worth celebrating 🤝 ✨

Fusion for Energy (F4E) and ALSYMEX completed the beam source of MITICA, the prototype for ITER’s Neutral Beam Injectors at Consorzio RFX Padova.

The system is designed to generate high-energy ions to deliver 16.5 MW, an unprecedented plasma heating power.

The F4E and ALSYMEX teams came together in the Tarbes workshop to honour this new success and the long-standing collaboration behind it.

Over 15 years and 29 contracts, we have delivered key technologies for ITER and mastered know-how that will help Europe shape its own future through fusion energy.

Brilliant teamwork!

Winter is coming to ITER's Magnet Cold Test Facility❄️

The first Toroidal Field coil from Japan is ready to be cooled down to 4K (-269 ºC), cocooned inside a massive cryostat.

These temperatures, only found in deep space, will allow engineers to verify the coil's performance under ITER operating conditions.

👏An impressive facility and teamwork! Well done to our ITER partners and the European teams contributing.
