WEBINAR ON HUMAN RIGHTS, 23 March 2021, Time 12H00

The already fragile state of human rights worldwide has suffered greatly due to covid-19, a pandemic that has pushed millions into more precarious living conditions, affecting disproportionately certain social groups. Few countries have as strong of a bond with the question of human rights as South Africa.

Every year since 1994, South Africa commemorates the nation’s struggle for human rights on Human Rights Day, which takes place on March 21 in memory of the tragic events that took place in Sharpeville in 1960. To mark such an important date, Fundación Alternativas and the South African Embassy organize this event to put the spotlight on the issue of how covid-19 is affecting the state of human rights, with on-the-ground perspectives from South Africa and Spain.

The speakers will discuss the economic and social impact of covid-19 on human rights, especially gender rights, and explore effective and equitable solutions for socio-economic recovery.
