The experience of the past few years has demonstrated that building effective state institutions, strengthening governance and accountability, and standing firmly for the national interest can produce meaningful results.
We are capable of achieving much more. But one chapter has now reached its end: the chapter of depending on, appealing to, or seeking to reopen doors controlled by the major global powers. That door has been closed, and no power on earth can simply reopen it for us.
The next chapter is different. It is about turning the involvement of neighboring countries in our national affairs into an opportunity that serves both our interests and the interests of their own peoples. It is about engaging them in ways that can encourage change in their systems through mutual interests, regional stability, and lasting peace.
We have now begun this process, one step at a time. Those who remain will either correct themselves or be corrected by their own people.
The Oromo people must no longer live as a people who are always crying; they must become a people who make those who seek to undermine them take a bigger notice. Those who try to drive the Oromo people toward “Madagascar” must face the consequences; and if they fail to correct their course, the Oromo people will send them back to where they came from.
There is no need to celebrate Irreecha in the forest while carrying guns—unless it is merely pretending and faking. Irreecha should be celebrated in our cities, peacefully, with dignity, and in a way that expresses and honors our identity.
Therefore, my message, especially to our young people who have been confused by those who oppose them, is simple:-
Come into the cities and celebrate Irreecha with dignity. Stay away from guns, but never distance yourselves from your identity. Distinguish genuine Irreecha from pretending and faking; preserve its true meaning and dignity.
