Today, Commissioner Lelise Dhugaa held a high-level discussion with leadership officials of Haramaya University on advancing tourism development and strengthening eco-tourism initiatives in Oromia.

The meeting focused on evaluating the progress and future implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Oromia Tourism Commission and Haramaya University four years ago, aimed at fostering collaboration in sustainable tourism development, research, training, and eco-tourism promotion.

University Vice Presidents Dr. Yesihak Yusuf and Professor Mengistu Urge, alongside senior directors and officials attended the discussion.

The engagement highlighted the importance of stronger institutional partnerships in promoting environmentally sustainable tourism, academic research, community-based tourism initiatives, and capacity building within the sector.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to working closely in developing innovative tourism strategies that contribute to conservation, economic growth, and strengthening efforts to position Oromia as a leading destination for sustainable and eco-cultural tourism.

The final day at ITB China 2026 has officially concluded, marking the successful completion of three productive days of networking, partnership building, and tourism promotion. The event provided a valuable platform to showcase the tourism potential that Oromia has to offer to the international tourism market.

Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali inaugurated the Borana Cultural Center today.

Today, the Borana Cultural Center was inaugurated in Yabelo in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Shimelis Abdisa alongside other dignitaries. Built on 57.6 hectares of land, the center stands as a major cultural landmark dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich heritage, philosophy, and values of the Borana people and the Gadaa System.

Featuring a 2,000-seat conference hall, a heritage museum, and cultural spaces designed to reflect Oromo identity, the center is expected to become an important destination for cultural learning, tourism, and intergenerational knowledge transfer.

A new home for the stories, values, and enduring spirit of the Gadaa System.
