🌍🤝 Advancing Africa’s E Mobility Transition through South–South Collaboration

GGGI is pleased to have supported a high-level knowledge exchange between Angola and Ethiopia, bringing together policymakers, regulators, and industry players to accelerate electric mobility across the continent.

Led by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics - Ethiopia, with support from GGGI Ethiopia and GGGI Angola, the benchmarking visit provided insights into Ethiopia’s rapidly evolving e‑mobility ecosystem, from policy and regulation to infrastructure, manufacturing, and digital innovation.

The exchange highlighted key success factors behind Ethiopia’s progress, including strong cross-sector coordination, enabling policies, and growing public–private partnerships. It also reinforced the importance of system-level planning, bankable financing models, and integrated energy–transport solutions in scaling sustainable mobility.

As H.E. Bareo Hassen, State Minister of Transport and Logistics, noted:
“By sharing our experience in electric vehicle implementation, ranging from policy frameworks to infrastructure expansion, we aim to strengthen the country’s and continent’s transition to sustainable transport.”

The Angolan delegation emphasized the value of these insights, particularly the role of coordinated policy and institutional leadership in driving successful e mobility transitions.
At GGGI, we are proud to support this kind of South–South collaboration, helping countries translate knowledge into practical solutions and strengthen regional cooperation in green transport.

Progress Toward Ethiopia’s Carbon Market Framework

We are pleased to see an important milestone in Ethiopia’s climate finance journey, as the Council of Ministers, today, during its 55th regular session, has reviewed and forwarded the draft Carbon Market Proclamation to the House of Peoples’ Representatives.

This development marks a significant step toward operationalizing Ethiopia’s carbon market strategy, creating a clear legal framework to support green investment, regulate carbon trading, and ensure fair benefit sharing among stakeholders, including local communities.

The progress builds on the extensive nationwide consultations conducted earlier this year, reflecting strong collaboration across government institutions, regions, and partners.

GGGI welcomes this advancement and looks forward to continuing our collaboration with the Government of Ethiopia and partners to support the effective implementation of the carbon market framework and strengthen access to climate finance.

🌿 World Biodiversity Day 2026

Biodiversity is not only something we protect; it’s something we live with, depend on, and grow through.

This World Biodiversity Day, we celebrate the collective impact of our partners and communities across Ethiopia who are turning commitment into lasting results. From forest conservation to landscape restoration and climate-smart agriculture, our work demonstrates that protecting nature and strengthening livelihoods go hand in hand.

At the heart of it all are communities, leading, innovating, and sustaining the ecosystems they depend on.

Together, we are showing that biodiversity conservation is not just an environmental priority, but a pathway to resilience, prosperity, and green growth.

🤝 Powered by strong partnerships. Driven by local leadership.

"Bee Together for People and the Planet - A Partnership That Sustains Us All."

As Africa’s top honey producer, Ethiopia knows firsthand that bees are vital drivers of rural livelihoods, food security, and healthy ecosystems.

Nearly a third of global food crops rely on pollinators. Yet, climate change, habitat loss, and pesticides pose growing threats to their survival.

Under this year's global theme, "Bee Together for People and the Planet," today is a reminder to support sustainable farming and protect the natural habitats these incredible insects need to thrive.

Let's safeguard the pollinators that sustain us all.

Productive partnerships are at the heart of climate action.

GGGI Ethiopia Country Director, Okechukwu Daniel Ogbonnaya, met with H.E. Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, Special Representative of the Secretary-General to the African Union and Head of United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU), to explore new frontiers in our collaboration.

Following GGGI’s recognized contributions during the Africa Climate Summit 2 (ACS2), we are excited to expand our joint efforts. Our conversation, yesterday, centered on the critical intersection of Climate, Peace, and Security, particularly regarding financing and capacity building.

Together, we are exploring stronger joint engagement as we pave the road to COP32. 🌍🌱

Environmental sustainability and economic growth are often treated as competing interests, but in Ethiopia’s Kaffa and Konta zones, we are proving they are inseparable.

The Conservation and Sustainable Management of Forested Landscape (CSMFL) project is built on a simple premise: a community that finds economic value in a standing forest is that forest’s best defense. By shifting from subsistence to climate-smart agribusiness, we help local producers manage their natural assets more effectively.

This transition relies on three practical pillars: deploying solar-powered irrigation to end rainfall dependency, establishing community-led savings associations (VESAs) to bypass credit barriers, and ensuring inclusive governance. Crucially, this gives those who depend on the forest, particularly women, a formal seat in decision-making.

This impactful work was recently showcased at the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD) at the UNECA, highlighting Ethiopia's practical model for inclusive green growth.

Our progress is driven by a strategic partnership with the Embassy of Sweden in Ethiopia (Sida). Alongside iDE and ECFF, we are demonstrating that investing in economic agency secures the future of the forest.
