The Permanent Representative of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the African Union and UNECA, Ambassador Lemlem Fiseha, presented her letters of credence to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mahmoud Ali Youssouf earlier today.
On the occasion, Ambassador Lemlem reaffirmed Ethiopiaโs continued commitment to supporting the African Union and expressed the Governmentโs readiness to further enhance its close cooperation with the African Union Commission in advancing the Organizationโs objectives and priorities.

Ethiopia and Finland have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations during the second Ethiopia-Finland Political Consultation held in Addis Ababa.
The consultation was co-chaired by Ambassador Meles Alem, Director General of American and European Affairs at Ethiopia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Outi Holopainen, Finland's Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland. During the discussions, both sides reviewed the current state of relations and explored ways to deepen cooperation in political, economic, trade, education, and climate-related sectors.
Ambassador Meles Alem briefed the Finnish delegation on the success of Ethiopia's Homegrown Economic Reform Program highlighting the country's growing investment opportunities and improving business environment. He encouraged Finnish companies to invest in sectors such as innovation, technology, and agro-processing, and stressed the importance of closer cooperation between the chambers of commerce of both countries to boost trade and investment.
He also provided updates on Ethiopia's recent 7th General Election, the ongoing National Dialogue process, and efforts to implement the Pretoria Peace Agreement, reaffirming the government's commitment to peace and stability.
Ambassador Outi Holopainen, on her part, commended the rapid transformation of Addis Ababa and described Ethiopia as an important partner for Finland in promoting peace, security, and climate action. She reaffirmed Finland's continued support for Ethiopia, particularly in the areas of digitalization, higher education, meteorological cooperation, teacher training, and vocational education.
She also expressed Finland's support for Ethiopia's preparations to host COP32, noting the importance of the conference in advancing global efforts to address climate change.
The meeting concluded with both sides emphasizing the value of regular political consultations and their shared commitment to further strengthening the longstanding partnership between Ethiopia and Finland.

State Minister of The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye "Together with the senior leadership from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all heads of FDRE Missions, and Consulate Generals across the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific region, we held a comprehensive review of the 9-month performance report of our citizens' overseas employment.
During our deliberations, we jointly evaluated the performance and activities carried out by our missions and consulates over the past nine months, with a particular focus on safeguarding the rights, dignity, and benefits of our citizens residing in Middle East countries.
In line with our nationโs citizen-centric diplomacy framework, a consensus was reached on the vital importance of further strengthening collaborative efforts among the Ministry, all FDRE Missions and Consulate Generals, and the FDRE Ministry of Labor and Skills to ensure our citizens in the Middle East and across the globe gain access to legal employment opportunities, maintain their dignity and rights, and effectively contribute to their own and their nation's development."

The Chairperson of the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), Melatwork Hailu, today briefed diplomats and representatives of international organizations based in Addis Ababa on preparations for Ethiopiaโs 7th General Election scheduled for 1 June 2026.
The briefing covered voter registration, women and youth participation, security arrangements, and the use of technology, as well as efforts undertaken in collaboration with relevant institutions to ensure a transparent, free, and credible electoral process.
In his opening remarks, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Berhanu Tsegaye, stated that the 7th General Election represents the continuation of successive national elections conducted in the country, underscoring that this process has laid a strong foundation for the development of Ethiopiaโs democratic system.
Chairperson Melatwork noted that more than 50 million voters have been registered and that 52,029 polling stations have been established nationwide, including special polling stations for internally displaced persons, defense forces, and students. She also stated that ballot materials have been distributed to all polling stations. Furthermore, the Chairperson emphasized that the Board has been working closely with various stakeholders to ensure that the election is peaceful, inclusive, and free.
Participants in the discussion noted that they had gained an understanding of the efforts being undertaken to ensure the peaceful and inclusive conduct of the upcoming election.
