[KOICA Fiji Office, Arrival of KOICA Volunteer Batch 169]

On June 8th, five KOICA volunteers from Batch 169 of World Friends Korea (WFK) arrived in Fiji. Kang Heeseon (Mathematics Education🔢), Kim Doyun (Art Education🎨), Sim Hyeonseok (Art Education🎨), Yang B**g Seok (Librarian📖), Cho Chonghyeon (Agriculture🌱) will be serving for a year in their respective institutions across Fiji:

• Kang Heeseon – John Wesley Primary School
• Kim Doyun – Nadroga Sangam School
• Sim Hyeonseok – Labasa College
• Yang B**g Seok – Saint Mary's Primary School
• Cho Chonghyeon – Ministry of Agriculture

Our office has prepared a six-week Local Adaptation Orientation Program to support the volunteers in settling in quickly and living safely in Fiji. The program includes English classes, safety training, an introduction to Fiji, and a KOICA office overview. Additionally, we will arrange mentoring sessions with senior volunteers. Moreover, they will visit their organizations for six days to complete their on-the-job training (OJT).

We warmly welcome our new volunteers to Fiji and look forward to seeing the great work :)

안녕하세요, KOICA 피지 사무소입니다!

6월 8일, 제169기 월드프렌즈코리아(WFK) 코이카 봉사단원 5명이 피지에 도착하였습니다. 강희선(수학교육🔢), 김도윤(미술교육🎨), 심현석(미술교육🎨), 양봉석(사서📖), 조종현(농업🌱) 단원은 아래의 기관에 배치되어 각자의 전문분야에서 1년간 봉사활동을 진행할 예정입니다:

• 강희선 – 존 웨슬리 초등학교
• 김도윤 – 상감 초등학교 난드롱아
• 심현석 – 람바사 컬리지
• 양봉석 – 세인트 매리스 초등학교
• 조종현 – 농림부

우리 사무소는 단원들의 빠른 현지 적응과 안전한 봉사활동을 지원하기 위해 6주간의 현지적응교육을 준비하였습니다. 해당 교육은 영어 수업, 안전교육, 파견국 이해, KOICA 사무소 소개 등으로 구성되어 있으며, 선배단원과의 만남을 통해 봉사활동 멘토링 시간도 가질 예정입니다. 또한 6일간 각자의 파견 기관에 방문하여 직무교육(OJT)을 수료할 예정입니다.

피지에 오신 다섯 분의 단원분들을 다시 한번 환영하며, 앞으로의 멋진 활약을 기대하겠습니다 :)

[KOICA Fiji Office Supports Women's Economic Empowerment in Fiji]

As part of the Digital Capacity Building Project for Enhancing Socio-Economic Participation of Women in Fiji, KOICA Fiji Office handed over sewing machines and cooking pots to women's groups in Fiji via Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection today.

This contribution was provided to help women strengthen entrepreneurial skills and promote their participation in economic activities.

Ms. Selina Kuruleca, Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection attended the handover ceremony along with Ms. Hankyulsam Cho, Country Director of KOICA Fiji Office, and Ms. Seoyeun Bang, Deputy Country Director.

Ms. Selina Kuruleca, Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection expressed her gratitude for the contributions made toward especially sustainable income-generating activities for women, and hoped for continued cooperation between the two countries in the future.

Ms. Hankyulsam Cho, Country Director of KOICA Fiji Office, stated, “We hope this support will help women expand their income-generating opportunities and achieve greater economic independence.”

KOICA will continue to cooperate with the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection to promote the socio-economic participation and empowerment of women in Fiji.

[코이카 피지사무소, 피지 여성의 경제활동 참여 확대 지원]

안녕하세요, 코이카 피지사무소입니다.

코이카 피지사무소는 오늘 ‘피지 여성의 사회경제적 참여 증진을 위한 디지털 역량강화 사업’의 일환으로 피지 여성 커뮤니티에 재봉틀과 상업용 냄비를 지원했습니다.

이번 지원은 피지 여성 커뮤니티의 창업 기술 습득, 경제활동 참여를 촉진하기 위해 마련되었습니다.

해당 기증식에는 Ms. Selina Kuruleca 피지 여성부 차관대행과 조한결샘 코이카 피지사무소장, 방서연 부소장이 참석해 자리를 빛냈습니다.

Ms. Selina Kuruleca 피지 여성부 차관대행은 지속가능한 여성의 소득증진 활동 기여에 감사를 표하며, 향후 두 국가 간 긴밀한 협력이 지속되기를 희망한다고 전했습니다.

조한결샘 코이카 피지사무소장은 “이번 기자재 지원이 여성들이 실질적인 소득 창출 기회를 확대하고 경제적으로 자립하는 데 도움이 되기를 바란다”고 전했습니다.

코이카는 앞으로도 피지 여성부와 협력하여 피지 여성의 사회경제적 참여 확대를 위해 지속적으로 지원할 것입니다.

Last May, the KOICA team visited Kiribati for a field visit under the "Making Health Adaptation for the Future Resilient Islands (Te Mamauri)" project, with stops in both Tarawa and the outer island of Marakei.
In Tarawa, the team visited the Ministry of Health & Medical Services of Kiribati, where they reviewed project-supported equipment at the Environmental Health Unit (EHU), including PortaLab devices and other water quality testing tools. The team also visited the Health Information Unit (HIU) to check on the newly developed District Health Information System (DHIS2), which is currently in the data collection phase and is expected to strengthen evidence-based health service delivery going forward. Capacity building training under the project has also been successfully completed.
On the outer island of Marakei, the team visited three health facilities currently receiving support through the project, including health facility rehabilitation, solarization, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) equipment, and health worker capacity building. During the visit, a handover ceremony was held for an Aquatek water purification unit, which will be used to improve access to safe drinking water for the communities of Marakei.
The team also held meetings with senior officials from the Ministry of Health & Medical Services to discuss the smooth continuation of the project, reaffirming the strong commitment and cooperation between both sides.

안녕하세요, KOICA 피지사무소입니다. 🌊 지난 5월, KOICA는 키리바시 현지 출장을 통해 "Making Health Adaptation for the Future Resilient Islands(Te Mamauri)" 사업 현장을 방문하였습니다. 이번 출장에서는 수도 타라와와 외섬 마라케이를 방문하여 사업 추진 현황을 직접 확인하였습니다. 타라와에서는 키리바시 보건의료부(Ministry of Health & Medical Services)를 방문하여 사업 지원을 통해 구축된 환경보건부서(Environmental Health Unit)의 포털랩(PortaLab) 등 수질 검사 기자재를 확인하였습니다. 또한 보건정보부서(Health Information Unit)에서는 사업을 통해 개발된 보건정보시스템(DHIS2)을 점검하였으며, 현재 데이터 수집이 진행 중으로 향후 수집된 데이터를 바탕으로 보다 체계적인 보건 서비스 제공에 기여할 것으로 기대됩니다. 관련 역량강화 교육도 성공적으로 완료되었습니다. 마라케이 외섬에서는 사업 대상 보건시설 3곳을 방문하여 보건시설 개보수, 태양광 설치, 식수위생(WASH) 기자재 지원, 보건 인력 역량강화 등 사업 추진 현황을 점검하였습니다. 이번 방문 중에는 수질 정화 장비 Aquatek 기증식도 진행되었으며, 해당 장비는 앞으로 마라케이 섬 주민들의 안전한 식수 접근성 향상을 위해 활용될 예정입니다. 또한 키리바시 보건의료부 고위 관계자와의 면담을 통해 사업의 원활한 진행을 위한 긴밀한 협력 방안을 논의하였으며, 양측의 지속적인 협력 의지를 재확인하였습니다. KOICA는 앞으로도 키리바시 국민의 건강하고 지속 가능한 미래를 위해 함께하겠습니다. 🌿

[‘Capacity Building for the Government Officials on Digital Competency (2025-2027)’ 2nd Year Multi-country Program Participants trained in Korea]

The ‘Capacity Building for the Government Officials on Digital Competency (2025-2027)’ invitational training program, held from May 6 to May 15, was successfully completed. Two Fijian participants selected for the training took part in the program.

This program is designed for government officials from the Ministry of Civil Service of Fiji. It aims to strengthen their capacities in digital governance and ICT policy-making, thereby contributing to administrative innovation and sustainable digital transformation in their respective countries over a three-year period.

The participants attended an orientation session at the KOICA Headquarters Training Center in Seongnam, Korea, followed by lectures on “Korea’s Experience for Building Digital Government” and “AI-based Public Human Resources Development.”

The trainees expressed high satisfaction with the overall program, and shared that although the duration was short, Korea’s digital governance experience and training sessions were useful and impressive.

The KOICA Fiji Office hopes that this training will further strengthen Fiji’s digital public administration capacity and contribute to the advancement of public service innovation and digital transformation in the future.

[‘디지털 역량강화 (2025-2027)’ 다국가연수 2차년도 연수생, 초청연수 실시]

안녕하세요! 코이카 피지사무소입니다 :)

지난 5월 6일부터 5월 15일까지 진행된 ‘디지털 역량강화(2025–2027)’ 다국가연수가 성황리에 마무리되었습니다. 이번 연수에는 초청연수 대상으로 선발된 피지 연수생 2명이 참여하였습니다.

본 연수는 피지 정부의 공무원부 공무원을 대상으로 하며, 피지 정부의 디지털 거버넌스 및 ICT 정책 수립 역량을 강화하고 이를 통해 각 국가의 행정 혁신과 지속가능한 디지털 전환에 기여하는 것을 목표로 3년 간 진행됩니다.

연수생들은 성남에 위치한 코이카 본부 연수센터에서 오리엔테이션을 진행했으며, 이후 ‘한국의 디지털 정부 구축 경험’, ‘AI 기반 공공 인적자원 개발’ 등에 관한 강의가 이어졌습니다.

연수생들은 이번 프로그램 전반에 대해 높은 만족도를 보였으며, 짧은 기간이었지만 한국의 디지털 행정 경험과 교육 과정이 유익하고 인상 깊었다는 소감을 전했습니다.

코이카 피지사무소는 이번 연수를 통해 피지의 디지털 행정 역량이 한층 강화되고, 향후 공공서비스 혁신과 디지털 전환 촉진에 기여하기를 기대합니다.
