Imagine our children in Fiji are like tiny yam plants in a garden.
• If we give them care, love, and learning when they are very young, they grow strong and healthy.
• If we wait until they are older, it is harder to help them reach their full potential, and it costs more.
The Heckman Curve shows that the best time to invest in children is in their early years.
• Early support helps them do well in school
• Helps them stay healthy
• Helps them become strong, confident adults who can help Fiji grow
The earlier we care for our children, the brighter Fiji’s future.

What are the components of Nurturing Care
For me Nurturing Care is the foundation of how we raise strong healthy Pacific children
It is made up of five simple things
Things every child needs every day
Good health
Children stay well and get the care they need
Good nutrition
Children get the right food to grow strong
Safety and protection
Children feel safe loved and free from harm
Early learning
Children learn through play talking singing and exploring
Responsive care
Children feel seen heard and comforted by the adults who care for them
These five things together help children grow well in body mind and spirit
This is Nurturing Care
This is how we build a strong future for our families and our islands

What is the Pasefika Call to Action for Early Childhood Development
For me it is a simple message
Our Pacific children must grow strong safe and ready to learn
The Pasefika Call to Action reminds us that
Every child deserves love care and support in the early years
Families need the right help
Communities must work together
And our leaders must invest in the early years now not later
It is about giving our children the chance to live healthy
to learn well
and to build a strong future for our islands
This is our Pacific promise
Our shared responsibility
And our hope for the next generation

Sometimes we wonder why it is so hard to get more support for our little ones in Fiji
The truth is
Many people still do not see how important the early years are
The budget is small
Different services work on their own
Leaders look for fast results
And we do not always have the data to show the long term benefits
But I believe we can change this
When we work together
When we share the real stories
When we put our children first
Our children deserve the best start in life
And we can make it happen Fiji

Why Early Childhood Development (ECD) Is Important for Children in Fiji
Fiji wants all children to grow well, learn well, and be safe. This matches our national plans and the rules we follow to protect children.
⸻
1. UN CRC – Children’s Rights
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child says every child must get good health care, learning, and protection.
Fiji follows this and includes it in our National Development Plan and the ECD Framework 2024–2028.
⸻
2. SDG Target 4.2 – World Agreement
The world agrees that young children must learn early and be ready for school.
SDG 4.2 says all boys and girls should join school ready to learn.
⸻
3. What ECD Means
Early Childhood Development looks at all parts of a child:
• Body – health and growing strong
• Thinking – learning, problem-solving
• Feelings – confidence, staying calm
• Social skills – playing, talking, making friends
⸻
4. Early Years Are Very Important
A child’s brain grows very fast from birth to age five.
These early years affect:
• Health
• School success
• Future jobs
• How children feel and behave as adults
⸻
5. Good ECD Helps Children for Life
When children get the right support early, they:
• Stay healthier
• Learn better
• Behave better
• Do better in life and work
⸻
6. ECD Needs Many Services Working Together
Children grow well when everyone works together.
ECD includes:
• Health
• Nutrition (good food)
• Early learning
• Safety and protection
• Family support
⸻
In Simple Words
Helping young children early helps Fiji’s future.
When children grow strong, learn well, and feel safe, our families and communities become stronger too.

🌼 September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 🌼
Every year thousands of children and families face the toughest battle of their lives — childhood cancer. This month we pause to remember the brave little fighters, honor the survivors, and stand in solidarity with families who carry the weight of this journey every day. 💛
🎗️ The gold ribbon is the symbol of childhood cancer awareness — wear it proudly, share it widely, and start conversations that matter.
👉 Let’s raise awareness.
👉 Let’s support families.
👉 Let’s believe in brighter tomorrows.
💛 Together, we can bring hope. 💛
