Research data from the UK says the symptoms for the Delta variant of covid19 are presenting differently in patients to the SARS-coV-2 virus and Alpha (UK) variant : look out for headaches, runny nose, sore throat and fever. Loss of taste and smell is not common with Delta.

If you have these symptoms (severe headache, runny nose, sore throat and fever) call 158 immediately and wait at home for MOH to send a team to swab and test you.

Decision makers must explain decisions that endanger the safety and well-being of the people. Why and how are three individuals allowed to leave Suva Containment Zone to freely enter a non contained area? Were they swabbed and tested before departure? Who else did they mix with in Namatakula and are they all in quarantine now? Can the PS Health and heads of Military and Police explain this kind of decision making?

The people need answers and reassurance that the same rules apply to everyone.

KURIDRANI QUESTIONS APPROVAL FOR 3 INDIVIDUALS FROM SUVA CONTAINMENT ZONE TO ENTER NAMATAKULA NON CONTAINMENT ZONE
21 June 2021

Navosa Parliamentarian Inosi Kuridrani today questioned the intention and motive of the authorities in approving cross border passes for 3 individuals previously in Suva Zone to enter Namatakula in the non containment zone on Saturday 19th June 2021. The three entered Namatakula from Suva without notice to the villagers and the Turaga ni Koro.

Namatakula and other villages in Baravi/Coral Coast protested on Monday 14th June against the setup of quarantine centers at the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort and Maui Bay. Two days later on Weds 16th June the Roko Tui Nadroga/Navosa visited to “consult” the villagers but by then the hotels were receiving their quarantine guests.

The lack of consultation and warning appears to be the norm and yet again 3 individuals were given passes to travel from Suva to Namatakula on Saturday 19th June.

I learnt of this yesterday 20th June and that the individuals have been interacting with people in the village. I am informed they are now under quarantine in a farmhouse near the village.

The behavior of officials whose decision making is undermining the safety and well-being of the population is cause for grave concern and worry.

There is great anxiety in the community about what other decisions are being made that threaten their safety and well-being by decision makers who do not consult, who appear to be overriding MOH rules on crossing of containment borders.

Government has announced those going from containment zones to non containment zones must be swabbed, enter a period of isolation before departure and enter quarantine on arrival.

Were these individuals swabbed and tested before departure as required by MOH? PS Health announced he is the final decision maker on such passes - did MOH and PSHealth know and approve of this movement?

I am very disappointed and gravely concerned at this turn of events and ask for urgent clarification from the PS Health, Military Commander, Roko Tui Nadroga and all officials for an explanation.

I. Kuridrani

The 48-hour blackout before election day greatly handicaps the opposition parties. The 48-hour blackout is designed to enable the ruling party to silence the opposition parties.

The 48-hour blackout before election day greatly handicaps the opposition parties.

In practical terms, the 48-hour blackout appears designed to enable the ruling party to silence the opposition parties.

In 2018 internet trolls established fake pages mimicking reliable news organisations like Fiji TV and Fiji Times, with fake headlines, speading fake posts, for example a falsified story that once in government, SODELPA will abolish Diwali.

The blackout doesn't apply to prepoll voting which begins three weeks before voting day. One day voting is a myth because elections actually take place over a month in Fiji.

Further, the blackout assumes that the voting population is stupid and that voters are unfairly influenced in a matter of 48 hours.

The experience from 2014 and 2018 is that the 48 hour blackout is designed to enable the ruling party to silence the opposition parties. While Ministers continue handing out cheques and freebies and opening new facilities during the blackout with media coverage, the Opposition parties are subject to the draconin blackout and its penalties.

Due to the requirements of the blackout period and draconian penalties to be meted out to those who breach the blackout period we could not go on mainstream or social media.

It would be interesting to investigate and find out who really was behind the fake postings during the blackout period.

It is easy to label any process free and fair but they noticed the lack of transparency and different interpretation of rules in the last two elections.
