The 2026 Pacific Islands Forum Women Leaders Meeting press conference took place in Suva, Chaired by Hon. John Maneniaru, Minister of Women, Children Youth, and Family Affairs for Solomon Islands.

He was joined by Secretary General, Baron Divavesi Waqa, and Palau’s Minister for Justice, Hon. Jennifer Olegeriil, to highlight the importance of inclusive regional action on gender equality, economic resilience, and addressing gender-based violence across the Pacific.

Ministers and Delegates attending the Pacific Islands Forum Women Leaders Meeting reaffirmed that investing in girls' education, leadership, safety, and opportunities enables them to thrive, contribute to their communities, and help shape a more inclusive and resilient Pacific for future generations.

Ministers and Delegates attending the Pacific Islands Forum Women Leaders Meeting highlighted the need to remove barriers that prevent women, girls, and people living with disabilities from fully participating in society.

Key priorities include tackling gender-based violence, expanding leadership and economic opportunities, strengthening inclusion in climate and development initiatives, and ensuring policies and services are accessible, equitable, and responsive to the needs of all Pacific people.

Young women and girls remain a key focus of the Pacific Islands Forum Women Leaders meeting because barriers to leadership, economic participation, health services, and protection from gender-based violence continue to limit opportunities across the region.

Leaders have emphasised that including young women in decision-making is essential for achieving gender equality and ensuring no one is left behind in the Blue Pacific.

Senior officials convened at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat today for the Forum Trade Officials Meeting.

The meeting was chaired by the Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Fiji, His Excellency Joseph Ma’ahanua.

“In this environment, regional cooperation becomes not only desirable but essential. The collective strength of the Blue Pacific lies in our ability to work together, coordinate our responses, and advance common interests in a rapidly changing world. This requires us to remain forward-looking, strategic, and united in our approach to both regional and international trade issues,” said H.E Ma’ahanua.
