NEW FUEL AND LPG PRICES FOR MAY 2026

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) wishes to inform all Fijians of the revised fuel prices effective from Friday, 1 May 2026. The new prices are as seen in the images.

FCCC notes recent public commentary regarding the methodology applied in its April 2026 fuel price assessment. The Commission confirms that its pricing framework remains consistent and is applied using verifiable international data. During periods of heightened volatility, adjustments to the assessment window may be applied to better reflect prevailing market conditions and to moderate sudden price shocks to consumers. These are within our regulatory tools to do so.

Measures to Cushion Impact
Global fuel markets have been extremely volatile from March to April 2026. Rather than passing the full cost increase on immediately, FCCC used a gradual approach to spread the impact over time.

Without this approach, diesel alone could have exceeded $4.50 per litre in May. We chose to absorb that shock gradually rather than hit households and businesses all at once.

For the assessment period, the following factors attributed to the increase in fuel products.
(i) The price of motor spirit and premix is based on the international refined price and international freight benchmarks, which reflected the increase in the international refined fuel price and international freight rate for motor spirit by 33.98% and 48.72%, respectively while the USD currency weakened by 0.11%.
(ii) The price of kerosene and diesel will also increase due to the increase in the international refined fuel price of kerosene and diesel by 60.38% and 69.60% respectively. In addition, the international freight rate increased by 48.72% while USD currency strengthened by 0.70% and 0.43% for kerosene and diesel when compared to the last review.
