ABACA YOUTH CLUB RECEIVES TOOLS TO EMPOWER COMMUNITY .

The Abaca Youth Club yesterday finally received their 3 brush cutters and 1 chain saw support as part of the Youth Grant Programme under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

While officiating at the handover ceremony at Abaca Village in Lautoka today (08.06.26), the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Jese Saukuru, said the community is capable of achieving great things.

He urged them to step up and work together for the benefit of future generations.

“At the Ministry, nothing makes us happier than empowering our Fijian youth to become self-sufficient and productive members of our society,” Hon. Saukuru said.

He was also vocal today in addressing issues affecting youth. He stated that the rising cases of drugs and HIV/AIDS are very alarming and emphasized that it is not only the responsibility of the government and the Fiji Police Force but a collective duty for everyone to work together to address these issues.

He highlighted that the number of HIV and AIDS cases is very concerning, and he consistently raises this issue wherever he goes.

The country depends on the youth to make the right choices, as the future of Fiji is in their hands.

He urged the youth members of Abaca Youth Club to work together and help their communities fight against drugs entering their villages, homes, and affecting their family members.

"Stay away from drugs because the consequences are devastating," he said.

Minister Saukuru reiterated that the Coalition government is here to serve you all, no matter your geographical location.

The 27-member youth club received 3 brush cutters and 1 chain saw valued at $4,742.00.

HON. JESE SAUKURU OPENS THE 2026 ASCA COACHING CLINIC IN FIJI.

Minister for Youth and Sports Hon. Jese Saukuru opened the 2026 American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) Clinic at South Sea in Lautoka this morning. The event marks a significant milestone in Fiji’s ongoing efforts to enhance aquatic sports, coaching standards, and water safety across the nation.

While speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister Saukuru acknowledged the dedication of the Seals Swim Club, particularly Mrs. Naivalu, whose vision and commitment fueled the organization’s growth and partnership with ASCA.

“At the outset, I want to acknowledge and sincerely thank the Seals Swim Club, especially Mrs. Naivalu, for her vision, determination, and commitment to developing swimming in Fiji,” Hon. Saukuru said.

Hon. Saukuru thanked Fiji Aquatics, the Fiji National Sports Commission, and Fiji National University for their collaborative support in bringing this high-caliber training to local coaches.

“Today also demonstrates your Coalition Government’s commitment to supporting local leadership in sport. We proudly support an iTaukei woman who has shown exceptional initiative and dedication as the founder and owner of Seals Swim Club. Her efforts exemplify the vital role women play in sports leadership and community development,” he said.

He emphasized that hosting the clinic in Fiji increases accessibility, allowing more coaches to gain internationally recognized certifications and improve their skills without the financial burden of overseas travel.

“You are investing not only in your own development but also in the future success of swimming in Fiji,” Hon. Saukuru said.

Hon. Saukuru underscored the importance of coaching excellence in developing competitive athletes, enhancing water safety, and reducing drowning incidents nationwide.

“Importantly, bringing this clinic to Fiji creates opportunities for many more local coaches to participate. For many individuals, traveling overseas for specialized training is financially challenging and often beyond reach. By hosting the clinic locally, we are making high-quality education more accessible and ensuring broader participation,”

Hon. Saukuru encouraged all participants to make the most of this opportunity. Learn, engage, ask questions, share experiences, and build networks that will last well beyond this clinic.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing." - 2 Timothy 4:7-8

It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we share the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Ms. Moira Rodan, Manager of Research and Development at the Fiji National Sports Commission, who peacefully passed away on Sunday (31/05/2026).

Hailing from Mokani, Bau, Tailevu, with shared maternal links to Bureta, Ovalau, Lomaiviti, Moira was far more than just a colleague; she was a pillar of strength, warmth, and dedication within the Fiji National Sports Commission family. Having served faithfully for more than 8 years, her passion for her work and her vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her.

Losing someone who contributed so much of her life, energy, and heart to the broader MYS team is a profound grief that is deeply felt across the sporting fraternity and our Ministry.

During this time of great loss, our most heartfelt condolences, thoughts, and fervent prayers go out to her beloved mother and her entire extended family. May they find strength, comfort, and peace as they navigate through this difficult period.

May her legacy of steadfast service, humility, and professionalism will endure through the work she so faithfully carried out.
