Obesity is characterized by an accumulation of white adipose tissue and a loss of beige adipose tissue (BAT), the latter one being the good adipose tissue that burns fat and consumes sugars. To restore the BAT mass in obese patients could counteract obesity-driven metabolic disorders. Fig 1 – ExAd...

The embryo puts on a string to initiate gastrulation – iBV
Embryo gastrulation is the process by which the blastoderm tissue is remodeled and different groups of cells are translocated in different parts of the embryo to eventually form the right organ at the right place and time. In Drosophila, gastrulation is initiated by the formation of a furrow along t...

Infection of C. elegans by Haptoglossa Species Reveals Shared Features in the Host Response to Oomycete Detection
Oomycetes are a group of eukaryotic organisms that includes many important pathogens of animals and plants. Within this group, the Haptoglossa genus is characterised by the presence of specialised gun cells carrying a harpoon-like infection apparatus. While several Haptoglossa pathogens have been mo...

[iBV Publication] Germ cell apoptosis is critical to maintain Caenorhabditis elegans offspring viability in stressful environments
Germ cell apoptosis is critical to maintain Caenorhabditis elegans offspring viability in stressful environments
Maintaining reproduction in highly variable, often stressful, environments is an essential challenge for all organisms. Even transient exposure to mild environmental stress may directly damage germ cells or simply tax the physiology of an individual, making it difficult to produce quality gametes. I...
