The new session of the UNESCO Executive Board started this morning. In his speech, Ambassador Stellino highlighted the key role UNESCO has to play in times of crisis and instability: education, science and culture have the power to offer common ground for dialogue and hope, while a more effective and results-oriented multilateral system remains essential.

Italy - together with Switzerland, France and Slovenia - submitted the multinational nomination “Alpine Food Heritage: community-based safeguarding programmes” to the UNESCO Convention Secretariat for inscription on the Register of Good Safeguarding Practices.

An example of concrete cross-border cooperation, the initiative places Alpine communities at its core, recognizing a living heritage shaped by shared knowledge and practices, from foraging and transhumance to cheesemaking and traditional agriculture.

More than a set of practices, Alpine food heritage reflects a cultural system rooted in nature and seasonal rhythms, one that continues to evolve today through local networks, fostering transmission, sustainability and dialogue across the region.

A warm tribute and standing ovation at UNESCO for Assistant Director-General for Education Stefania Giannini, after 8 years of outstanding leadership. Her commitment has helped shape the global education agenda and advance inclusive, equitable learning worldwide. A heartfelt thank you for her vision and dedication.

Minister Giuseppe Valditara at UNESCO reaffirmed Italy’s strong commitment to inclusive, high-quality education, highlighting priorities such as reducing school dropout, tackling educational inequality, and strengthening vocational pathways. Education remains key to social cohesion, economic growth, and active citizenship.

Presentata il 24 marzo la candidatura de: “Il presepe, dalle origini a tradizione culturale, e l’arte di crearlo” per l’inserimento nella Lista del Patrimonio Culturale Immateriale dell’Umanità.

📌 L’Italia è il Paese capofila, che coinvolge anche Spagna e Paraguay, a testimonianza del valore universale di una tradizione che unisce culture e comunità diverse.
Il presepe non è solo una rappresentazione: è identità, memoria e dialogo interculturale. Un’arte che vive grazie a saperi artigianali tramandati nel tempo.

🏛️🌍 The Nativity Scene Heads Toward UNESCO

On March 24th, the nomination titled “The Nativity Scene: from its origins to a cultural tradition, and the art of creating it” was officially submitted for inclusion on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity List.

📌 Italy is leading the initiative, in collaboration with Spain and Paraguay, highlighting the universal value of a tradition that brings together diverse cultures and communities.

The nativity scene is more than a simple representation: it embodies identity, memory, and intercultural dialogue. It is an art form kept alive through artisanal knowledge passed down from generation to generation.

L’UNESCO accoglie 12 opere di artiste italiane e internazionali che, attraverso una pluralità di linguaggi artistici, esplorano temi come: memoria, identità, migrazioni e diritti umani.
Un’occasione di riflessione sul ruolo della donna nella costruzione della memoria individuale e collettiva.

UNESCO hosts 12 works by Italian and international women artists who, through a variety of artistic languages, explore themes such as memory, identity, migration, and human rights.
An opportunity to reflect on the role of women in shaping individual and collective memory.

📍Si è tenuta ieri, presso la sede dell’UNESCO a Parigi, l’inaugurazione della mostra “𝗠é𝗺𝗼𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗺𝗺𝗲𝘀. 𝘓𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘦𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘴, 𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘦 𝘭𝘢 𝘮é𝘮𝘰𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘶 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦“.

Promossa dalla Rappresentanza Permanente d’Italia presso l’UNESCO, in collaborazione con Associazione Genesi e la Comunità di San Patrignano, e curata da Ilaria Bernardi, l’esposizione propone una riflessione sul ruolo delle donne nella costruzione della memoria individuale e collettiva.

L’evento inaugurale ha visto gli interventi dell’Ambasciatore Liborio Stellino, Rappresentante Permanente d’Italia presso l’UNESCO, di Åsa Regnér, Vice Direttrice Generale dell’UNESCO e di Letizia Moratti, Presidentessa dell’Associazione Genesi e cofondatrice della Comunità di San Patrignano. I loro discorsi hanno sottolineato l’importanza di iniziative culturali come questa nel contribuire alla riflessione internazionale sulla parità di genere, una delle priorità globali dell’UNESCO.

Il percorso riunisce le opere di dodici artiste - italiane e internazionali - che, attraverso linguaggi e generazioni diverse, mettono in dialogo storie, esperienze e prospettive culturali differenti.

Installazioni, video e opere visive costruiscono un racconto plurale che attraversa memoria, identità e trasformazioni sociali contemporanee.
