High in the Estrela mountains, a humble grain shapes tradition. 🌾🔥
In the tiny village of Videmonte, Portugal, artisan baker Manuel Proença keeps an ancient rhythm alive. Using his mother’s sourdough recipe and baking in a 12m² stone oven, he transforms local rye—threshed and milled by hand—into loaves steeped in tradition.

Part of , a UNESCO International Geoscience Programme project, Vim do Monte is more than a bakery—it’s a living expression of how geology, culture, and community shape sustainable food. 🥖💚

“The terrain has taught me patience.” 🕰️

Meet Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Eisa, whose deep knowledge and lived experience helped shape the newly designated North Riyadh UNESCO Global Geopark in Saudi Arabia. 🇸🇦🪨

In this striking desert landscape—where Tabletop Mountains meet ancient coral reefs—Abdullah’s story weaves geology, identity, and memory into one. His voice reminds us that true conservation begins with community. 🤝🌄

🌍❄️ Today marks the launch of the UN Decade of Cryospheric Sciences (2025–2034) — a global call to better understand and protect Earth’s frozen regions.

To mark the moment, we’re spotlighting Dr Adina Racoviteanu, a glaciologist whose UNESCO-supported work in the Himalayas bridges science and community action. From documenting sacred mountain glaciers to training young researchers and mapping flood risks, her International Geoscience Programme project shows what’s possible when traditional knowledge and climate science come together.

This , discover how geology shapes what’s on your plate. 🦪🌍

At the Flaggy Shore in Ireland’s Burren & Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark, oysters grow in pristine bays fed by underground streams flowing through ancient limestone. 🌊 These hidden waters carry minerals and nutrients that give the oysters their unique flavour — a direct link between the geological landscape and local food.

Conor Graham and Mark Commins harvest, purify, and serve these oysters with care, combining sustainable practices with rich geological storytelling in their Oyster Experience. 🍽️
