In the past 2 days, the OECD discussed the 2022 edition of the biennial report on Israel. The report highlights Israel’s economic state, changes and policies while providing policy recommendations for the future. In addition to the usual macro-economic focus of the report, this edition will focus on the Israeli Labor market as well as health and digitalization.

These discussions follow a long drafting process, coordinated by Ariel Ablin, which included two visits of the Israeli desk at the OECD to Israel, where they met key Israeli policy makers, academics, and research organizations. The Israeli Delegation to the discussion, led by Chief Economist, Shira Greenberg, and Director General of the Budget Department, Yogev Gradus, provided their final inputs and answered questions brought up by other OECD member states.

The delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Industry, Rony Schnitzer Chief Strategy Officer at the Labor Branch and Amir Rubin, Policy and Strategy Senior Manager at the Policy and Strategy Division who provided further insights and responded to questions relating to their fields of work.

In addition to the discussion, a lunch reception celebrating the survey was hosted by the Israeli Ambassador for Multinational Organizations, Haim Assaraf and joint by OECD Secretary-General, Mathias Cormann.

The Israeli Economic Mission to the OECD thanks the writers of the report for their professional and hard work (Mame Fatou Diagne, Oliver Roehn, Michael Koelle, Sharon Kinory) and is very honored to take part in this important process together with the Ministry of Finance (Israel).

מתחילת המלחמה: הגירה של כ-5 מיליון אוקראינים, כמה מתוכם הגיעו לישראל? - ישראל ב-OECD החל מתחילת המלחמה באוקראינה בפברואר 2022 ועד אמצע ספטמבר, עזבו את אוקראינה כ-5 מיליון תושבים. מחקר של ה-OECD מראה את התפלגות הגירה זו בין מדינות ה-OECD השונות.

🔬 Today, Israel’s Chief Scientist from the Ministry of Innovation, Science & Technology, Prof Avi Domb, has met with the recently appointed Deputy Director of STI (Science Technology and Innovation) at the OECD, Mr. Jens Lundsgaar.

The meeting was also joint by the Director of International Relations Division at the Ministry of Innovation, Science & Technology, Eliaz Luf, The Israeli Ambassador to Multilateral Organizations, Haim Assaraf , who kindly hosted the meeting at his residence, and Yasmin Azhari from our team.

Topics that came up during the meeting include:
🔎 The activities and roles of the OECD in the field of Science, innovation and Technology,
🔎 Ways in which Israel can optimize its cooperation with the OECD and its members
🔎 The great importance of international and bilateral cooperation in the field.

The latter topic will follow the Chief Scientist in the following days, as this week a special mission form the Ministry of Innovation, Science & Technology will celebrate 20 years of bilateral scientific cooperation between Israel and France here in Paris.

The Economic Mission was happy to organize this meeting, will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Innovation, Science & Technology on following and promoting Israel at the OECD in fields of Science, Technology and Innovation, and wishes Mr. Lundsgaard good luck in his new role 👏

🔬היום, נפגשו המדען הראשי של משרד החדשנות, המדע והטכנולוגיה, פרופ' אבי דומב, וסגן מנהל אגף מדע, טכנולוגיה וחדשנות (STI) של ה-,OECD מר יאנס לונדסגארד, שמונה לתפקיד לאחרונה.

בפגישה השתתפו גם מנהל אגף קשרי חוץ, משרד החדשנות המדע והטכנולוגיה, אליעז לוף, שגריר ישראל לארגונים הבינלאומיים בפריז, חיים אסרף, שאירח את הפגישה בביתו, ויסמין אזהרי ממשלחתנו.

בשיחה עלו נושאים מגוונים ביניהם:
🔎 פעילותו ותפקידו של ה-OECD בתחום המדע והטכנולוגיה
🔎 כיצד ישראל תוכל למטב את שיתוף הפעולה עם הארגון והמדינות החברות בו
🔎החשיבות הגבוהה של קידום שיתופי פעולה בינלאומיים ובילטרליים בתחום.

הנושא האחרון ימשיך ללוות את המדען הראשי בימים הקרובים שכן בימים אלו מתארחת משלחת מטעם משרד החדשנות, המדע והטכנולוגיה בפריז לרגל 20 שנות שיתוף פעולה מדעי בין ישראל לצרפת.

Our Policy Officer, Zsofia Borsi reporting:

✅ As part of the OECD National Contact Points meetings, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in the International Labour Organization’s course on Labour Issues in Responsible Business Conduct, which I successfully completed with a certificate.

💡This course was aimed at OECD delegates to better understand the ILO’s work, especially its MNE Declaration, and the way in which we can promote policy coherence between different international standards on responsible business conduct.

For me, some of the highlights of the training were:
📌 learning about the fundamental principles and rights at work, and how these sometimes conflict;
📌 the (increasing) challenges regarding non-standard forms of employment (such as platform workers and freelancers);
📌 and the similarities and differences between the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the ILO’s MNE Declaration.

Many thanks to the NCP Network, the RBC Centre and the ILO for organising this training, I’m glad I could take part as part of my role as Policy Officer for the Israeli Economic Mission.

🎤 New Year Welcome from the Head of the Economic Mission, Joseph Akerman

I would like to take this occasion to wish everyone a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!

As the Head of the Israeli Economic Mission to the OECD, under the Foreign Trade Administration - Ministry of Economy & Industry, I am proud to present you our brand-new, international team. Our mission is to represent, support and protect the economic interest of Israel in a wide range of fields, including Trade, Investment, Responsible Business Conduct, Industrial Policy, Digital, Sustainability and much more. Over the upcoming weeks, you will have the opportunity to meet Paolo, Yasmin, and Zsofia and hear their insights on what's happening in the OECD.

Despite two difficult years of shutdowns and working virtually, the OECD - OCDE continues to be relevant and together with the vision and leadership of Mathias Cormann, our new Secretary-General, the OECD will become even more relevant (but we'll leave that for future posts).

2022 will be a very exciting year for the OECD with Ministerial meetings in the fields of Digital Economy, Environment, Education, Responsible Business Conduct, Employment and Agriculture. My team and I cannot wait to share our insights about them, as well as to give updates on other important events and projects on the table.
