The months to come are set to reveal a correlation between the attractiveness of a destination and the handling of the pandemic by its government.

We are seeing an increasing amount of research and statements from travelers expressing that their travel choices will be highly influenced by the way countries responded when COVID-19 arrived within their borders.

The following countries are gaining recognition for taming their outbreaks and could be the first to regain vitality when it comes to their travel-related economy: South Korea, Germany, Vietnam, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. All started with high per-capita testing rates.

I take the opportunity of this message to congratulate my friends at Safecast ボランティア. Formed nine years ago to address the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear meltdown they are today building on their founding beliefs that people should have access to reliable and accurate information in order to make decisions about their own safety. They are pursuing their mission to point ambiguous and incomplete information and influence people to avoid remaining dependent on single sources of official information which may be neither relevant nor trustworthy. People should have easy access to COVID-19 testing options to give reassurances about their own health and safety, and the one of their loved ones and of the community they are a part of. I encourage you to sign for their newsletter and support their actions. https://covid19map.safecast.org/

Oh yes: Shh...

The pulse has begun to beat, and we already have embarked some amazing people on this new adventure. Our newly-founded company, Deneb has officially begun to craft transformative experiences in Japan and other parts of the world: www.denebstories.com

Deneb, is one of the most distant stars we can see without optical aid. Located in the constellation Cygnus — a Latin form of the word “swan”, Deneb is a bluish-white supergiant around 200 times the size of the Sun.

We chose the name Deneb (/dɛnɛb/) as a symbol for exploration, the preservation of our world heritage and the people we bring together.

Exploration: Deneb is one of the brightest stars in the northern sky. It refers to the spirit of navigation, contemplation, intellectual-elevation, the reaching of new-heights, the broadening of our horizons and the discovering of off-the-beaten-path treasures.

Heritage Preservation: Deneb is one of the farthest stars that can be seen with the naked eye. For us it symbolises a heritage that fades and the wonders of the world that become unknown to our children due to human activities. In the case of our sky at night, which is a great source of inspiration, it is today increasingly threatened by smoke and light pollution. Yet our nights are a sacred thread to our ancestors.

Connections: To the ancient Greeks, the constellation Cygnus featured in the telling of multiple tales involving swans. But the constellation didn’t represent a swan in all cultures. In Chinese mythology, Deneb formed part of a bridge across a “river” — the Milky Way itself. Under that perspective, Deneb represents for us the essence of travel as we create bridges both between like-minded wanderers and with members of the communities they interact with.

THE YUKAGIR MAMMOTH IS BACK IN JAPAN!
- 2005: The Yukagir Mammoth, a unique specimen that died 22,500 years ago, was presented for the first time in Japan (World Exposition, Aichi)
- 2007: Atelier LaPaz is asked by Vyacheslav Shtyrov, President of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia, Russian Federation), to develop and execute the conservation method of the Yukagir Mammoth. With a team of Russian and French experts including our Conservator in Chief of Heritage Gilles Pacaud (former conservator of Museum of Natural History in France) we performed a world premiere and developed a process blending the methods used to conserve the mummies found in Egypt and Ötzi, the Iceman (South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano)
- 2010: Launch of the 2010-2014 Mammuthus Program, an expedition program dedicated to salvaging fossils that have lain encased in the Siberian permafrost for tens of thousands of years and gain knowledge from the natural history record. During that year, we associate GE Healthcare and engage in in-depth analysis of some exceptional specimens such as Lyuba (the world's best preserved 42,000-year-old baby mammoth) and Khroma, the oldest baby mammoth ever found (at least 50,000 years old)
- 2019: The Yukagir Mammoth is back in Japan along with recently-excavated frozen specimens presented for the first time in the country (at the Miraikan, the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation).

In the months to come, we will be organizing an event to celebrate, with our Deneb Club members, the spirit of exploration, science and heritage conservation. Stay tuned!
