The Embassy of Ghana in Paris is honored to report a historic milestone in the bilateral relationship between Ghana and France regarding reparatory justice. On May 21, 2026, represented by Ambassador H.E. Mavis Ama Frimpong, the Embassy participated in a Silver Jubilee Anniversary in Paris commemorating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the French law recognizing slavery as a crime against humanity. Reflecting a unified presence, the event was well-attended by the African diaspora and the corps of African ambassadors in France.

Keynote addresses were delivered by French President Emmanuel Macron, UNESCO Director-General Dr. Khaled El-Enany, and former French Minister of Justice Madame Christiane Taubira. President Macron acknowledged that no compensation could adequately address the suffering endured by descendants of enslaved persons, but affirmed France stands ready to work collaboratively with Ghana on reparatory justice.

Demonstrating this, President Macron announced support for a joint Scientific Research Commission on Slavery in Accra. France also declared its intention to repeal the colonial-era slavery statutes known as the Code Noir. Ghana applauds this, recognizing that honest reckoning is the foundation for engagement.

These advancements build upon the historic March 25, 2026, UN General Assembly resolution. Championed by President John Dramani Mahama, it recognized the transatlantic enslavement of Africans as the gravest crime against humanity. Dr. El-Enany commended Ghana for this leadership, while Madame Taubira delivered an emotional overview of the processes preceding France’s historic law.

To translate this into action, Ghana will host the Next Steps High-Level Consultative Conference on Reparations in Accra from June 17 to 19, 2026 to be attended by President Macron who will address the summit alongside a French delegation. The summit will also convene leaders to structure the agenda on healing, artefact return, and redress. Ghana invites all partners of comparable conviction to join this profound endeavor.

THE PARIS MISSION COLLABORATES WITH HARMATTAN BIRDS TO PROMOTE SPORTS DIPLOMACY IN FRANCE

On Tuesday, 21st April 2026, the Embassy of Ghana in Paris formally received a 14-member delegation comprising representatives from Harmattan Birds, Club Drouais (France), and Bukom Boxing Gym (Ghana) during a courtesy visit to Her Excellency Mavis Ama Frimpong. The visit, held at the Chancery, formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen sports diplomacy and foster collaboration between Ghana and France through boxing.

Led by King David Neequaye, alongside Manuel Argentin, the group was warmly received by Her Excellency Mavis Ama Frimpong. What began as a courtesy call quickly unfolded into a lively exchange of ideas—where boxing became more than a sport; it was a bridge between nations.

In her remarks, Her Excellency spoke passionately about Ghana’s deep-rooted boxing tradition, invoking the legacies of icons like Azumah Nelson and Ike Quartey. She highlighted how the spirit of the ring reflects Ghana’s resilience and excellence on the global stage, encouraging the young athletes present to see themselves as the next chapter in that proud story.

The delegation extended an invitation to a major boxing event in Dreux— “Gala de Boxe: Road to Ghana 2026” a fitting symbol of the journey they were building together. Conversations flowed around youth empowerment, technical exchanges, and mentorship opportunities, with both Ghanaian and French representatives united in their belief that sport can shape lives far beyond the arena.

On Saturday 25th April 2026, that vision came alive in Dreux where Ghanaian and French boxers faced off in a spirited display of skill and determination. Her Excellency, welcomed by local officials including the Mayor of Dreux, witnessed firsthand the power of sport to connect cultures.

The night reached its peak when Mathias Ash*tey of Bukom Boxing Gym secured a memorable victory in the 52kg category—his performance a testament to discipline, training, and the enduring strength of Ghana’s boxing tradition. As cheers filled the arena, it was clear that this was more than a competition; it was a celebration of partnership.

From Accra to Dreux, the story of this encounter is one of collaboration, pride, and possibility. It reflects Ghana’s commitment to using sport as a tool for diplomacy— showcasing talent, fostering connections, and inspiring the next generation to step boldly into the ring of opportunity.

The visit to the Mission on Monday, 27th April 2026, provided a fitting conclusion to the successful engagement. During the occasion, the delegation presented a trophy to Her
Excellency Mavis Ama Frimpong in appreciation of her support and commitment to sports diplomacy. In response, Her Excellency warmly congratulated the team for their outstanding performance and discipline, commending their role in strengthening Ghana–France relations through sport and encouraging them to continue striving for excellence both in and beyond the ring.

🌍 🇬🇭 Protecting Our Planet Means Protecting Ourselves: Insights from the One Health Summit 🌍🇬🇭

At the recent One Health Summit in Lyon, France, Ghana took the global stage to deliver a critical message: human, animal, and environmental health are deeply interconnected.

As the world faces an overwhelming surge of cross-border health threats—driven by climate change, ecosystem degradation, and pollution—traditional, separated approaches are no longer enough. Highlighting Africa's deep historical roots in natural, integrated living, the address reminded us that true resilience comes from working with nature, not against it.

To secure our global health future, Ghana outlined 3 urgent calls to action:

1️⃣ Action Over Words: The time for declarations is over. We need immediate, coordinated global action starting now.
2️⃣ A New Global Framework: The "One Health" approach must be fully integrated into international security and sustainable development agendas.
3️⃣ Build a Preventive Shield: We must invest in smart, agile early-warning systems and ensure vulnerable countries have fair access to the financing, data, and technology needed to stop the next pandemic before it starts.

Prevention is not only more effective, but it is also far more cost-effective than finding a cure. Together, we must build a healthier, more resilient world!
