Following a number of recent incidents involving young people riding e-scooters, we are appealing to parents to stop allowing their children to endanger themselves and others.

Although these vehicles can be legally purchased in Scotland, they are illegal to ride on public roads, pavements and other public places. They can only lawfully be used on private land with the landowner’s permission.

Officers are urging parents and carers to consider the dangers of e-scooters and remember that anyone purchasing one has a responsibility to be aware of the law and implications.

Enforcement action can be taken against the rider and those who purchase these machines. Police can lawfully seize e-scooters when used illegally, whilst parents can be held responsible, leading to fines and points in their own licence.

Sergeant Mark Rennie said: “The legalisation surrounding e-scooter use exists to protect the public and is especially important because younger children do not yet have the judgement, coordination, or hazard awareness these devices require.

“This isn’t about being strict or unfair – it’s about understanding the risk.

“Aberdeen Community Policing Teams have been taking opportunities to engage with children when encountered on such scooters, however this is having little impact and we urge parents to please take action.”

If you have any questions or information you wish to provide to your local community team regarding the illegal use of e-bikes, other off-road bikes and e-scooters, please call 101 or email [email protected].

Coming up next month!

Living Well in Kincardine & Mearns Community Appointment Day, taking place on Thursday 11 June, from 1pm to 7:30pm, at Stonehaven Town Hall.

The free event is being organised by GP practices across Kincardine & Mearns in partnership with Aberdeenshire Health & Social Care Partnership, NHS Grampian, Live Life Aberdeenshire, community organisations, charities and local voluntary groups.

The aim of the event is simple: to make it easier for people to understand their health, find local support, and take small steps towards living well.
On the day, people will be able to:
• Have friendly conversations with healthcare professionals about “what matters to you”
• Access health checks related to heart health, blood pressure and diabetes risk (limited places available)
• Take part in functional fitness checks for those aged 50 and over
• Meet local community groups, charities and activity providers
• Learn about practical support available close to home
• Take part in Taster sessions of Yoga and Tai Chi

While some people aged 35 to 60 have been invited directly by their GP practice, the event is open to everyone. You don’t need an appointment to attend, and there’s no pressure to undertake any tests or get involved in anyway that people are uncomfortable with.

The Community Appointment Day will focus on living well with a particular emphasis on helping people to understand their risk of developing cardiovascular disease, diabetes and early signs of frailty and loss of functional fitness. .

Living Well in K&M reflects a growing focus on prevention and early support, bringing services together under one roof and into the heart of the community.

A message from our Scottish Youth Parliament representatives:

“In June, we have our national gathering of MSYPs (known as a Scottish Youth Parliament sitting). Sittings involve a wide range of activities but perhaps the most important one is the motions sessions.

To represent the young people of Aberdeenshire during these sessions, we have created a survey (and other engagement resources) to allow us to collate their views and vote accordingly.”

Please take a look at the survey below if you are aged 12-25.

One in three adults have high blood pressure in the UK, but many don’t realise it because it doesn’t necessarily have any symptoms. The good news is there are lots of things you can do to lower it through changes to diet & lifestyle (or by medication if needed).

Our health and wellbeing team are out and about in May offering free blood pressure checks and healthy lifestyle advice as part of Spring Health Watch.

Drop-in, no booking required. All locations and times are on our dedicated webpage: https://livelifeaberdeenshire.org.uk/live-life-well/supporting-change/health-watch/
