Non regulatory body representing the legal profession in Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland

The Society of Advocates in Aberdeen exists to promote professional expertise and standards amongst members of the legal profession in and around Aberdeen, to foster rapport amongst them and their standing in the community, and to provide facilities towards those ends. Its history goes back hundreds of years, but it has its feet firmly in the 21st century.

October Library lunch. President Jane MacEachran welcoming Robbie Macaskill of United Supplies Ltd as a guest this time. Robbie does a great job of running our wine tasting events.

It was a pleasure to hold a reception at the Library for Aberdeen University DPLP students. Delighted that Professor Justin Borg-Barthet and Dr Solomon Obulor were also able to attend. Everyone was welcomed by Senior Vice President Anne Boyd and then enjoyed relaxed mingling and chat.

Looks quiet? On Saturday we had over 600 visitors to the Library for Doors Open Day. The “dressing up” corner was particularly popular. Thank you to the retired judges for donations! And thank you to the volunteers.

Earlier this year we celebrated the 250th anniversary of our first Royal Charter of Incorporation, granted in 1774 by King George III.

The Royal Charter’s granting signified formal recognition of our society and its roots that stretch back “beyond the memory of man”…

To mark this historic occasion, the Lord Provost and members of Aberdeen City Council kindly hosted a Civic Reception where the Lord Lyon, King Of Arms presented us with new armorial bearings.

Here they are in Full Achievement!
