I am delighted to let Allan Park users know about the recent path improvement work which had been undertaken.
Tarmac has been laid around the play park area which had been washed away from flooding and extended to the East entrance and to the top South path which is widely used to access the river.
This investment is very welcome and will make the Allan Park more accessible and enjoyable to the increasing number of people who use and enjoy the park.
Thanks go to Aberdeen City Council and in particular Councillor Marie Boulton who has been a long standing supporter of the Allan Park improvement program.
There is a 60 metre section on the top path not tarmaced nor the main road down to the playing field. Hopefully these last sections will be done in future to provide a completely tarmac path surface around the Allan Park.
The recent improvements however are very significant and much appreciated by the local community.

We have received 50 sapling trees from the Woodland Trust to plant and stakes and posts to protect other small trees planted recently.
Volunteers would be welcome to do this on SUNDAY 28th November at 2pm. Please bring a spade and hammer if you have them.
Thanks.
Iain Clark
I wish to let Allan Park users know that the Council are aware of the washed out path adjoining the play park and are designing a more permanent restoration which will withstand future river flooding .
This is a welcome initiative to avoid future recurrence.
However it will take a bit more time ( and cost ) before completion.
This is part of a number of fixes around the park the Council have recognised are required.

I am pleased that the Friends of Allan Park have been able to install a new information board at the East entrance and also restore the David Allan memorial.
These projects were kindly funded by Aberdeen City Heritage and the Seven Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen respectively.
I hope visitors will gain a greater appreciation and historic knowledge of the park and thereby gain greater enjoyment as a result.
If you have any other projects or enhancement ideas please post them.
There are a variety of organisations which support different aims from which we can apply for support with the Councils collaboration.
I hope you all enjoy the many recreational opportunities the Allan Park offers this year.
Please encourage others who may not know about it to visit this lovely historic place in our community.

Thanks to the helpers who have made a difference by cutting back the undergrowth and planting 100 trees which will provide year round colour in the Allan Park.
Further improvements will be undertaken in Spring.
Your support and suggestions are always appreciated.

Volunteer Action Afternoon.
Saturday 7th December 1.30pm.
We have received 100 sapling year round colour trees from the Woodland Trust to plant in the north part of the Allan Park to replace dead elms.
Our task is to clear some of the self seeded sycamores and vegetation and then to plant these new trees which will improve the appearance and biodiversity.
Your help with this would be most appreciated.
Please meet at the East entrance and bring spade , branch loppers or a saw. Thanks.
Iain
An update on the Allan Park. The memorial fountain has been restored and we are shortly going to have a new interpretation panel about the park installed at the East entrance. ( funded by the Seven Trades of Aberdeen and Aberdeen City Heritage ). The playground needs grass cut and I have been in contact with the council. Litter is evident- the bottle deposit scheme will help - at 20p each I would have made £5 yesterday !
The main practical task this year will be in the Autumn when we will remove self seeded sycamores and undergrowth and plant trees in the north area . Some companies and organisations are willing to assist.
Please contribute ideas and views so we can continue to make improvements.
Did you lose a watch ?
