🚨 Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB): What the police deal with — and what they don’t! 👮‍♂️

It can sometimes be confusing knowing when to contact the police about ASB. Here’s a quick guide:

👮‍♂️ What the police DO deal with:
• Intimidating, threatening, or abusive behaviour
• Youth-related ASB causing alarm or distress
• Vandalism or criminal damage
• Ongoing neighbour disputes that escalate into harassment
• Anti-social driving or vehicle nuisance

👉 If it causes harassment, alarm, or distress, it’s likely something the police can help with.

🙅‍♀️ What the police DON’T deal with:
• Bad parking (unless it’s dangerous or obstructive)
• Early-morning lawnmowers
• “Interesting” or strong cooking smells
• Cats wandering into gardens
• The weather 🌧️

👉 Some of these issues are better handled by your local council or environmental health team, who can also advise you further.

📞 Reporting matters
Reporting ASB via 101 or online reporting helps build a clearer picture of what’s happening in the community. This allows police to target patrols and resources where they’re needed most.

🚓 ASB: What We Deal With… and What We Don’t!

We’ve had a few reports about anti‑social behaviour recently, so here’s a quick guide to what is — and isn’t — a police matter 👇

👮‍♂️ What we DO deal with:
• Intimidating or threatening behaviour
• Youth‑related ASB causing alarm or distress
• Vandalism or criminal damage
• Ongoing neighbour issues crossing into harassment
• Anti‑social driving or vehicle nuisance

If it’s causing harassment, alarm or distress — we’ll get involved.

🙅‍♀️ What we DON’T deal with:
• Bad parking (unless it’s obstructive or unsafe)
• Early‑morning lawnmowing enthusiasts
• “Creative” cooking smells
• Cats trespassing like they own the place
• The weather (we’ve tried… no luck yet)

Some issues sit with council or environmental health — but we’ll always point you in the right direction.

📞 Help us help you:
Reporting ASB via 101 or online builds a full picture and helps us target patrols where they’re needed most.
We’re here, we’re listening, and yes — we also wish we could ticket loud pigeons. 🐦💙

Here you’ll find our Clerk and Office Administrator, happy to assist with any enquiry, comment, advice, or even a complaint. We’re here to support and guide you as best we can.

📚✨ Volunteering & DofE at the Library

Every year we’re approached by many local students looking to volunteer with us 💙 From 2-week Year 10 work experience (June) to Duke of Edinburgh placements, we really appreciate the interest!

⚠️ Unfortunately, we can only offer:
👩‍💼 1 work experience placement (June period)
👣 1 DofE placement per year (not during work experience)

Volunteers get a great taste of library life, helping with:
📖 Teen book displays
📚 Shelving & tidying books
👋 Greeting visitors
☕ Making drinks for regulars
🏛️ Learning how a library runs day-to-day

A fantastic way to build confidence, gain experience, and be part of your local community 🌟📖✨
