Happy New Year

On a sub zero evening, there’s not much incentive to go outside, but your local fire station still has work to do, testing our pumping equipment capabilities and maintaining our hosereels.

Regular tests and equipment familiarisation forms a big part of the FireFighter role, if this interests you, find out more about how to apply at

https://suffolk-firefighters.co.uk/current-vacancies/. Or pop along on a Monday evening for an informal chat.

Well done and welcome to the crew, Aldeburgh’s latest recruit, FF Tom Hunnisett.

We are proud to welcome eight new On Call firefighters to today who have successfully completed their initial firefighting course.

Following 2 weeks of intense instruction from our Training Team at Wattisham, the new firefighters will soon be joining their stations across Suffolk from Brandon to Aldeburgh to help protect their communities.

This afternoon, in front of Chief Fire Officer Jon Lacey, senior SFRS officers and their friends and family, they have demonstrated their new skills and recieved their course completion certificates.

Congratulations to you all, good luck in your careers and welcome to the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service family.

Could you join them? We are recruiting for On Call firefighters across Suffolk. Visit www.suffolk-firefighters.co.uk for more info.

A busy few days for Aldeburgh recently, with a house fire in Leiston early hours of Wednesday, an RTC on the B1119 Wednesday evening, and attending a large scale fire at agricultural buildings at Metfield twice over the weekend , mobilising initially as a relief crew at 03:30 Saturday, and then again later Saturday at 17:30.

What do we get up to at Aldeburgh Fire Station I hear you ask?

Well………..for a ‘quiet Fire Station, we get up to quite a bit…………!

Over the past few weeks we have carried out Trauma training, Water Rescue training, Incident Command re-certification, Salvage drills and RTC skills training, and attended a large industrial building fire, 3 house fires, 2 wild fires and an RTC on the A12.

We have welcomed a new crew member to station, a crew member attended a national ‘Women in Fire Service’ development weekend at the Fire Service college, and raised money for the Firefighters Charity (thanks to Sweffling White Horse and ‘The Other Ways’).

Coming up, we have a visit by a local toddlers group ‘Rainbow Tots’, Positive Pressure Ventilation training for some crew, and a variety of training drills and exercises to keep on top of our skills.

Many thanks to ‘The Other Ways’ for supporting The Firefighters Charity, and to The Sweffling White Horse for hosting the event.

🎵LIVE MUSIC🎵

Saturday 28 June: The Other Ways - Jacqui on vocals and Mik on guitar, playing acoustic music around Suffolk - jazz, blues, folk, pop - you name it!

Here's an interesting fact though - Jac is not only a brilliant singer, but also a firefighter based in Aldeburgh. This gig will be a charity fundraiser - with the contents of the hat going to the firefighters - so please bring plenty of cash!

What’s Aldeburgh Fire Station been up to lately I hear you ask…….. well, it’s been pretty busy, and very varied.

Since the start of May, we have mobilised to 3 spurious alarms at different premesis, 1 RTC on the A12, 1 kitchen fire, 1 fire in the open and 1 large outbuilding fire.

We have also taken part in the ‘freedom of the town’ parade and lit the beacon for the towns VE day commemoration.

The crew have attended annual Breathing Apparatus training at Wattisham training centre, attended weekly drill nights, and some crew members have refreshed their specialist Animal Rescue skills.

This week we were training the basics-ladders and pumping. During the drills, the Crew used a range of water delivery systems, High pressure hoses reels, ground monitor, hydro shield, and mainline branches, in a drill designed to put the pump operator through their paces.

It’s surprising how fast the 1800 liters of water we hold on the appliance disappears with a lot going on-making a challenge for the pump operator.

Aldeburgh Fire Station is recruiting now, find out more at https://suffolk-firefighters.co.uk, or drop in and see us from 19:00 on a Monday.
