HMOs & Renting

πŸ”₯ Fires in shared housing can spread quickly due to multiple occupants and shared spaces.

Fire safety is essential in HMOs.

Landlords must:
Install smoke alarms on every floor
Maintain fire doors and escape routes

Tenants should:
Test alarms regularly
Report faults immediately
Never interfere with safety equipment

Everyone plays a role in staying safe.

Today marks one year since the Bicester Motion incident in Oxfordshire that tragically claimed the lives of two firefighters and a member of the public. The thoughts of everyone at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue are with their families, friends, and colleagues on this difficult day.

Last nights drill night included pitching the 13.5meter ladder to the drill tower, pumping from open water, ie a lake/dyke/drain (our underground water pit was used) and using a ground monitor and a main jet as firefighting equipment.

🌾 SAFE DRIVING ON LINCOLNSHIRE ROADS

Rural roads can be quiet, but they often hide risks like bends, farm traffic, and wildlife.

βœ” Tips for mature drivers:
Slow down on narrow country lanes
Assume there’s hidden bends and limited visibility
Expect tractors and slow-moving vehicles
Watch out for deer and wildlife at dawn and dusk
Increase your stopping distance in wet or icy weather

🚜 Patience is one of the safest driving habits you can build.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ Family tip:
Help plan regular routes using main roads where possible, especially in poor weather.

πŸ”₯ Fire produces toxic smoke that can make you unconscious in just a few breaths.

Most people don’t realise that smoke, not flames, is the biggest danger in a house fire.

Protect yourself with early warning:
Install at least one smoke alarm on every level
Test alarms weekly
Replace batteries as needed
Use interlinked alarms where possible

Fires often start at night. Your alarms could save your life.

πŸ‘‰ Test your smoke alarms today.
