The Festival of Blossom is a nationwide campaign, encouraging and supporting opportunities for nature connection and creativity.
This year, Dunham Massey has worked with Trafford Community Collective group ‘New Roots’ - part of Trafford's Refugee Welcome Programme - to create and deepen connections between local communities and the natural world around them. New Roots are a support and wellbeing group for refugees and people seeking asylum, that seek to ‘grow new roots in a new place, finding community and strength together’.
Through a series of workshops, the group explored the parkland through their senses, learnt about magnolias with our Head Gardener Emily, and found unexpected connections within the House collections. Drawing on the ‘Botanical World of Mary Delany’ exhibition, they worked with Cut Loose Creatives to craft their own ‘paper mosaicks’, culminating in a collaborative ‘Blossom Branch’.
Now on display in the Visitor Centre, the branch is a powerful symbol of community and collective creativity – each individual flower contributing to a branch in full bloom.
The Festival of Blossom is supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery with funds awarded from Postcode Earth Trust.

Natural and historic places like Dunham Massey can play a significant role in improving the wellbeing of people living with and affected by dementia. Since 2019 we’ve been working with the Alzheimer’s Society to improve access to our places and make sure that dementia inclusivity is the norm, not the exception.
This week we hosted a Music for the Mind and Singing for the Brain event alongside the Alzheimer’s Society and Manchester Camerata. We were moved to see so many people taking part and showing the power that music can have.

The fallow deer that call Dunham Massey home have lived on this land for around 1,000 years - becoming one of its most treasured and iconic residents.
During the warmer months, we’re asking everyone to help ensure the deer enjoy a peaceful, healthy season alongside our visitors. Here’s how you can help:
🦌 The deer are naturally self-sufficient and thrive on the environment around them. Extra feeding can be harmful to their health and to the trees and habitats they depend on.
🐾 For the wellbeing of both people and animals, please enjoy watching the deer from a respectful distance of 50metres (half a football pitch) so they can remain calm and undisturbed. Keep dogs on a short lead.
🌿 Deer sanctuaries provide vital quiet spaces for resting and raising young fawns, away from busier areas of the park.
🗑️ Please take litter home with you or use the bins located around the historic buildings.
Every small action helps protect this special place keeping this ancient landscape safe, clean and welcoming for all. 💚
