Angus Council Fostering and Adoption Angus Council Fostering and Adoption teams recruits and supports foster carers and adoptive parents for Angus's children. Call for more info.

Angus Council provides a range of services and resources to support parents to look after their own children. While our goal is to help families stay together, there are times when children and young people cannot live in their own home. Illness, unemployment and changing family circumstances can all lead to tension and stress. Sometimes parents feel unable to cope, sometimes children are neglected or abused. When families are struggling sometimes they need a break from each other. In most such cases where children need to be in care, they are placed with foster carers. Children and young people of all ages need the care and support of foster carers - from babies to 18 years old. Foster carers can provide care, stability and support. This helps children and young people to grow and develop in a positive environment. Parents remain significant and important people in most children's lives and foster carers often work alongside social workers to improve the relationship between parents and their children through regular and positive contact. Some of these children and young people will return home, some will move on to a new permanent family and some will leave care to live independently in their own flat or other suitable accommodation in the community.

Could you be a host family for a young unaccompanied person seeking asylum?

We are looking for people who have a spare room and can offer support and guidance to young unaccompanied people who are seeking asylum. Most are just 16 or 17 and need a safe, stable place to live as they build their skills for independent life.

As a host family you can provide a home and a supportive environment for these young people. Training, ongoing support and an allowance of living expenses are provided to families.

Give our fostering and adoption team a call on 01241 464646 for more information.

Adoption is a life-changing experience, and being prepared makes all the difference. The adoption process can be split into four parts:

1. Preparation group - where you learn about the process and speak to other adopters – it’s really helpful to speak to and hear from other adopters.
2. Home study - where you get training, learn about the children and the families.
3. The panel - who decides if you are suitable to adopt.
4. Matching with a child 💕

Thinking about adoption? You don't need to have all the answers straight away. Our team is here to help you understand what's involved and support you along the way.

Find out more about adopting with Angus Council on our website or get in touch for a chat on 01241 464646.

This Children of Foster Carers Week, we're recognising the important role birth and adopted children play in helping foster children feel welcomed, safe and part of the family. 💕

Jim and Jem are foster carers with four children. They're incredibly proud of how their children support their foster siblings, spending time with them, including them in family life and helping them feel at home.

"When a child first joins us, we all wrap around them to help them feel comfortable and settled."

Jim and Jem acknowledge that welcoming a new child can sometimes be confusing or challenging. By being open and honest about why a foster child might be feeling worried or unsettled, they help their children build understanding, empathy and the tools to support them.

Their advice for families considering fostering?

"Be open and honest with your children about what fostering can bring to your home. It helps them understand what's happening and enables them to support a child joining your family."

Foster carers, tell us why you're proud of your children in the comments below ⬇️

When Alice’s family were asked to provide emergency care for two young brothers, she welcomed them with patience, kindness and understanding.

From the very start, Alice helped the boys feel part of the family. She has embraced her role as a big sister, offering support, encouragement and friendship as they settled into a new environment. 🤝

Her mum Robyn says she’s particularly proud of the way Alice has supported the boys and helped them feel at home.

"I couldn’t be prouder of her. I see the difficult moments she has handled and, most importantly, the love she continues to give these two boys."

Alice’s story is a wonderful reminder of the important role children of foster carers play in fostering families.

Thank you, Alice, for being such a caring and supportive big sister! 💜

We recently held a really positive Preparation to Foster training, with eight people joining us.

Over the two days, they learned more about fostering, met some of our team and heard directly from foster carers about their experiences. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions, find out what fostering is really like and start thinking about whether it could be right for you and your family.🥰

Thinking about fostering? Have a look at our website or get in touch for a chat.

It’s Children of Foster Carers’ Week! ♥ A chance to celebrate the children and young people who are part of fostering families and the important role they play.

Meet Dantai and hear his lovely story. 👇

Children of Foster Carers’ Week is here! 🎉

Over the next seven days we’ll be celebrating the contribution of birth and adopted children of foster carers and the incredible impact they have in fostering families.

We’re kicking off the week by introducing you to Dantai. 👋

Adopted at 16 months old, Dantai proudly calls himself a foster carer and recently stood up in his school assembly to tell everyone he hopes to foster when he's older.

When children join his family, he shares his own experiences of being fostered and adopted, helping them feel safe and understood. His mum, Amanda, says he has embraced fostering with his whole heart.

Amanda adds: "Dantai is, in every sense, a superstar. He embodies kindness, compassion and courage. He makes my heart smile every single day, and I am more proud of him than words can ever fully capture."

Thank you, Dantai, for everything you do for children and young people in foster care.

We'll be sharing stories from other children of foster carers throughout the week, so keep an eye on our socials!

Think you can't foster because you work? You might want to think again. ❤️

We've seen a couple of articles recently challenging some of the common misconceptions around fostering – including the idea that you have to give up work to become a foster carer – like this one featuring Foster Wales https://orlo.uk/Tuh28

There’s no typical foster carer, and fostering can look different depending on the child, the carer and their circumstances.

Many of the skills people use in their working lives can also be valuable when fostering – from communication and patience to organisation, resilience and empathy.

If you live in Angus, get in touch with us for a chat, information and to ask any questions about becoming a foster carer.
