Arundel Castle One of the largest inhabited and complete castles in England. Castle and gardens are now open for the 2026 season. ๐ŸŒท๐Ÿฐ Only 500m from the main entrance.
(2022)

One of the largest inhabited and complete castles in England, Arundel Castle is situated in magnificent grounds overlooking the River Arun in West Sussex. Our story begins in 1067 and continues to the present day. Many of the original features such as the Norman Keep, medieval Gatehouse and Barbican survive. Between the 1870s and 1890s the house was almost completely rebuilt and the magnificent architecture in Gothic style is considered to be one of the great works of Victorian England. Learn from our friendly guides about the finely preserved interior with its fascinating furniture, tapestries and rare collection of paintings by renowned artists including Van Dyck, Gainsborough and Canaletto. Stroll through the tranquil grounds where you will discover inspiring gardens. Get involved in our historical events, learn about life in the past and cheer on your champion knight. Whilst you are here, visit Arundel's historic town centre with its museum, galleries, shops and restaurants.

Just look at this wonderful assortment of pumpkins, squashes and gourds in the Kitchen Garden! ๐Ÿ‚

Big and round, tiny and stripy, wonderfully knobbly and everything in between! Our gardeners have put together quite a collection, with a few unusual additions including jelly palm and Chusan palm fruits.

Itโ€™s a bright, breezy and blustery day here at Arundel, but the gardens are looking beautiful! ๐Ÿ‚ The autumn colours are stunning, and the castle looks wonderful against that blue sky. ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ’™

Hard to believe we only have one week left before we close for the season on 1st November. If you havenโ€™t managed to visit yet, thereโ€™s still time to enjoy a lovely autumn stroll through the gardens before we close our gates for the winter. ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒฟ

The last of the afternoon sunshine catching the towers of Arundel Castle through the autumn trees. ๐Ÿ‚

The grounds are looking particularly beautiful at the moment, with the leaves beginning to turn. There's just over a week left to enjoy the Castle and Gardens before we close for the season on Sunday 1st November.

'Probably the most interesting castle tour we've ever had. A great deal of which goes to this wonderful guide!'

We couldn't agree more!

๐Ÿ“ธJust 90 minutes by train from London Victoria, and you could be spending the day in beautiful Arundel! ๐Ÿš†

Of course, Arundel Castle is a pretty good reason to visit, with nearly 1,000 years of history to explore, magnificent rooms and spectacular gardens.

Walk out of the Castle gates and you'll find yourself in the centre of the historic market town, with its independent shops, antique stores, great little coffee shops, traditional pubs and plenty of places to stop for something to eat (or a drink!).

There's plenty more to discover too, from the magnificent Arundel Cathedral and the town's museum to the River Arun and Arundel Wetland Centre. And with the South Downs right on our doorstep, you're spoilt for choice.

So whether you're planning a day trip from London or fancy making a weekend of it, Arundel is well worth a visit! ๐Ÿฐ

With views like this, do you really need another reason to visit Arundel Castle? ๐Ÿ‚

Taken from high above the motte, looking across the Castle as the sun rises over the South Downs. And with just 17 days until we close for the season on 1st November, there's still time to plan your visit.

The autumn colours are beginning to show in the gardens at Arundel Castle. ๐Ÿ‚

The trees are starting to turn, with beautiful shades of red, orange and gold appearing throughout the gardens. And with the colours changing a little more each day, it's a wonderful time of year to visit.
