Still hanging on for the weekend? 🧗

Members of 24 Cdo RE attended Ex REMEC DEVON WEEKEND, delivered by Cpl W. The weekend saw single pitch and multi pitch climbing taking place at Haytor, Hound Tor and The Dewerstone, introducing novices to the skills required to follow a leader up multi pitch climbs in spectacular terrain.

The end of this term saw the official handover of the Regimental Sergeant Major appointment from WO1 M to WO1 H. There was, of course, only one way to do this properly.

WO1 M moves on to commission and take up a new role as Capt M with the Official Royal Engineers Page.

Pushing capability in the High North ❄️⛷️

A team of Commando Sappers from 24 Cdo RE deployed on Ex TELEMARK TITAN 26, testing themselves across demanding development races and into the Championship. Their hard work paid off, with strong individual performances and a standout win in the coveted Mountain Race competition — a testament to their fitness, skill, and determination.

Telemarking remains a core part of how we operate in Arctic environments. Mastering this form of mobility allows our soldiers to move swiftly, stay agile, and remain effective in some of the world’s harshest conditions. From steep descents to long-distance movement, these skills ensure we can fight, survive, and thrive in the high north.

New Year Honours 2026.

Congratulations to SSgt S of 24 Commando Royal Engineers, awarded the King’s Commendation for Valuable Service in the 2026 New Year Honours.

Recognised for outstanding contribution on operations with HMS Trent and the US Coast Guard during the Royal Navy’s interception of a narco-submarine in the Caribbean, a mission that seized £160 million of co***ne and disrupted major criminal networks.

A testament to Commando Engineer professionalism, courage, and commitment on the global stage.

HNY! Soldiers from 24 Cdo RE have returned to Norway to hone their cold weather operating skills and were treated to some immense displays in the heavens this week. 🇳🇴

The UK Commando Force are Defence's experts in arctic warfare, with temperatures this week reaching as low as -26 degrees. Operating here is as tough as it comes, but the views come for free.❄️

As part of Christmas week, 24 Commando Royal Engineers conducted a period of Christmas activities to close out 2025 in true Commando style.

From “The Eliminator” to the inter‑squadron chariot race, the Officers and Seniors boot match and the traditional Turkey Trot, the week is designed to test robustness, build teamwork and keep morale high across the Unit. The Unit was especially lucky to experience traditional Fijian Christmas carols as part of our Christmas service conducted by the Base Padre.

All ranks are encouraged to throw themselves into each event, support their comrades and showcase the spirit that underpins 24 Commando RE throughout the year. This programme has been organised and delivered by the RSM & the Physical Training staff, with special thanks to SSgt F for coordinating the serials and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to take part safely and effectively.

Wishing all Sappers, attached ranks and their families a very Merry Christmas and a successful year ahead from everyone at 24 Commando Royal Engineers.

For the past seven months, Crisis Response Troop has stood ready as the UK’s forward-deployed rapid-response element in the Caribbean during core hurricane season. 🌎⚓️

When Hurricane Melissa, the strongest storm in Jamaica’s history, made landfall, the troop was first ashore from HMS TRENT. Working alongside local authorities, they cleared debris from hospital wards, repaired damaged roofs, and carried out reconnaissance across Trelawny Parish. 💪

Between disaster relief missions, the troop trained with regional partners, refined Ship-to-Objective Manoeuvre skills, integrated with the US Coast Guard, and took part in joint exercises. 🇬🇧🤝🇺🇸

This deployment demonstrated the adaptability, professionalism, and dedication of the Royal Engineers – supporting resilient communities across the Caribbean.

Congratulations to All Arms Commando Course 25.2 on successfully completing their final Commando test this week.

This achievement marks the culmination of 16 weeks of arduous training, conducted in all weather conditions and under the highest levels of physical and mental pressure.🗡️

The Cdo REA Branch were in attendance at the AACC 30-miler to applaud those completing the march and witness the presentation of the coveted Green Beret.

Maj (Retd) Mick Berrill was honoured to present a copy of *Follow the Sapper* on behalf of REA HQ to Spr E, who was voted Best Royal Engineer on the course.

59 Cdo Sqn deployed SP to California in the US working alongside 45 Commando RM and USMC to conduct Cold Weather Warfare Training.

Commando Sappers have been training for warfare in the harshest of terrains during Ex FROSTED DAGGER and continue to develop their role as mountain warfare experts in the Royal Engineers.
