Warning 💊 | Dangerous fake weight loss drugs and other medicines

Tempting as it may be to save money, using fake online pharmacies puts you at risk of serious harm – check that any pharmacy you use is legitimate at the link at the end of this post.

Fake online pharmacies can dispense medicines that are inappropriate, ineffectively dosed, or even counterfeit. These counterfeit medicines can include seriously dangerous substances such as cement and even arsenic.

It's vitally important to make sure that any pharmacy you use is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

How to check an online pharmacy:
1. Find the pharmacy's GPhC registration number on its website.
2. Search for the pharmacy on the official GPhC register.
3. If the pharmacy is not listed, do NOT use it.

Taking one moment to check a pharmacy's registration could save your life.

What has been happening in your area?

During the month of September 2026, officers in the Barnstaple area responded to 534 logs.

This number does not include the incidents where Barnstaple Officers have been needed to assist in neighbouring areas.

This number is up 6.2% from the same period in 2025, which equates to 31 more reports.
These logs include, but not limited to:

86 Concern for Welfare
64 Domestic related
42 Missing Persons
52 Reports of Violence
4 Animal/Wildlife Reports
3 Criminal Damage
40 ASB
56 Highway disruptions/Road Offences (Not including speeding or RTC)
19 RTC
7 Sudden Death

I see a lot of people always ask about theft. The number of theft reports is 15. This includes all types of theft reports including burglaries, robberies, shoplifting, and general theft.

105 people were arrested during this time and detained at Barnstaple Police Station Custody Centre.

A large proportion of police incidents are not crime related. Of those which were, some investigations can be progressed through out of court disposals such as Community Resolution, Individuals being reported, or by voluntary interview.

As well as responding to the 534 logs, officers also worked on file building for court, taking witness and victim statements, foot, and vehicle patrols, booking in evidence, surveillance, executing warrants, attending court, attending training courses and inputting intelligence onto the system.

As always, we encourage people to make reports to us and not just on social media as this cannot always be monitored.

UPDATE | Bideford man jailed for breaching Criminal Behaviour Order

On 1 September, Robert Tellem was arrested and remanded after breaching several conditions of his CBO, including being located within the exclusion zone, being drunk in a public place (with exception of a public house within Devon and Cornwall) and behaving in a way that is intimidating or threatening to any person.

He appeared in court again last week, and was sentenced to an additional 10 weeks in prison; totalling 62 weeks when added to the 52-week suspended sentence (which has now been activated following the breach of his Criminal Behaviour Order).

LATEST NEWS | Man banned from drinking alcohol in public after antisocial behaviour concerns

A 29-year-old man from Bideford has been handed a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) after a series of alcohol-related offences and antisocial behaviour incidents across North Devon.

On 27 August 2026, Robert Tellem pleaded guilty to multiple offences at Exeter Magistrates' Court, including assaults, thefts from shops, criminal damage and assaults on emergency workers.

He was sentenced to 52 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.

The court also imposed a CBO until August 2029, prohibiting him from:

❌ Entering specified areas of Bideford and Barnstaple
❌ Approaching people to ask for money
❌ Claiming to be a member of the armed forces
❌ Entering a number of shops and premises from which he is banned
❌ Urinating or exposing himself in any public area where he could be in view of anyone
❌ Consuming alcohol or being drunk in public places (except within licensed pubs in Devon and Cornwall)

He has also been ordered to pay £816.42 in compensation to victims.

PC Laura Hancock-Smith said: "Robert Tellem has been a persistent offender in North Devon over the summer months, causing significant distress for the community and increasing demand on police resources. We hope this action reassures residents that we take reports of antisocial behaviour and shop theft seriously."
