Who are we? We navigate and advocate.

We are an independent, influential voice. We connect people to HSC services so that they can effectively influence these services. We do this by walking beside people, empowering them. The role of the PCC, with respect to health and social care services, is to represent the interests of the public;
• Promote the involvement of the public;
• Assist people making or intending to make a complaint through advocacy;
• Promote the advice and information by HSC bodies to the public about the design, commissioning and delivery of services;
• Undertake research into the best methods and practices for consulting and engaging the public. To get in contact, Freephone: 0800 917 0222 or Email [email protected]

🤱 Help Shape Our New Regional Mother and Baby Unit

🏠 We are developing Northern Ireland’s first dedicated Mother & Baby Unit, which will provide specialist inpatient care for mothers experiencing severe perinatal mental health difficulties while allowing them to remain with their babies.

📢 Your feedback will help shape the design, facilities and services that support mothers and babies when they need it most.

📅 The survey closes on 21st October and will only take 5 minutes to complete, so please share your thoughts.

👉🏻 The survey is available at this link: https://s.surveylegend.com/s/6bjp.

💜 Remember that every voice really does matter.

🤝 ✔️ The first recommendation of PCC and NICON’s 2025 report People to Partners, was that a People as Partners Strategic Framework should be developed. Such a framework could become a common reference point for our joint approach on why we should partner, on what we should partner on and the principles by which we should seek to partner with the public and each other.

📝Read PCC’s Thought Paper on what a Strategic Framework might include and how we can collaboratively work to produce one for the HSC here 👉https://pcc-ni.net/media/nfjfqpsm/pcc-thought-paper-people-as-partners-developing-a-strategic-framework.pdf

As part of the NICON session People, Culture and Leadership, we have produced a video ‘People as Partners: One Year On’. With an array of powerful contributions, the video celebrates distance travelled and looks to what more we can do to embed partnership working in health and social care.

💬 Meadhbha Monaghan, PCC Chief Executive speaking at NICON 2026 on boosting patient safety and public trust.

"A key aspect of patient safety and public trust is ensuring we listen to the public. How we can support people to be heard and how can we assist the system to listen?

"For PCC a critical answer to this question is a taking a regional approach to Independent Advocacy services”.
