This week is National Hate Crime Awareness Week.

Hate crime has a lasting impact on individuals, families, and communities.

At Victim Support NI, our Hate Crime Advocacy Service provides free, confidential support to people affected by hate crime, helping them understand their rights, access services, and navigate the support available to them.

During National Hate Crime Awareness Week, we encourage everyone to learn more about hate crime, speak out against discrimination, and support those affected.

If you have been the victim of sexual abuse or violence there are organisations out there who can provide support, advice, and information to you free of charge. We know that many people choose not to report to the police, but we would encourage everyone to seek support of some kind. We can help you whether or not you report your crime, and no matter how long ago the crime occurred.

Our community volunteers are often the first point of support for victims of crime, offering a listening ear, understanding, and practical help when it is needed most.

Through training and ongoing support, they help people build resilience and begin their recovery journey.
If you would like to make a positive difference in your local community, we welcome new volunteers all year round.

Last week, we were delighted to mark 45 years of Victim Support NI with many of the volunteers, staff, and stakeholders who have supported our work over the years.

The evening was an opportunity to reflect on our journey and recognise those who have made a lasting contribution to the organisation, including staff and volunteers with more than 20 years of service.

A special mention goes to Judy McCormick, who has been volunteering with Victim Support NI since the very beginning. Her commitment over the past 45 years is remarkable and reflects the dedication of so many people who have helped shape our organisation.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this milestone. More photos and highlights to come!!

Would you like to work with us and support victims of crime?

We are currently looking for two full time and one part time Admin and Support Officers (ASO) in our Belfast office and one part time Admin and Support Officer in our Foyle office.

Victim Support NI provides support for victims and witnesses in every court across Northern Ireland. We understand that attending court can be stressful and overwhelming, which is why our Witness Service offers emotional support and practical guidance to help people feel informed, prepared and supported throughout the process.

As an Administration and Support Officer, you will play a key role in delivering this service, providing initial support to victims and witnesses while ensuring the effective administrative systems are in place to underpin our work. This is an opportunity to contribute to a service that makes a real difference at a critical time in people’s lives.

We are looking for someone who can work on their own initiative, while also being a strong team member, committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate support.
