Please note that my office will not open until 2pm tomorrow (Wednesday 21 October) due to a family funeral.

As some will be aware my grandfather, Billy Brooks, sadly passed away last week and as a mark of respect and to allow attendance at the funeral my office will remain closed for the morning.

Thank you for your kindness and understanding at this time and apologies for any inconvenience.

For 28 years and 52 weeks per year, the Portadown District Orange LOL No. 1 respected the lawful outcome of the Parades Commission even though they disagreed with the decisions. They rightly, like the majority in Northern Ireland, believe the rule of law, not mob rule, must prevail.

Through the Parades Commission, the High Court and the Court of Appeal Portadown Orange has won significant victories whilst the response to those victories by Sinn Fein has exposed their hypocrisy.

It has been clear in recent days that due to the actions of Sinn Fein and the total disregard for the recent determination in favour of a parade that the PSNI cannot ensure the safe completion of the parade.

The decision of the Chief Constable to refer the matter to the Secretary of State and his conclusion that the parade cannot proceed is a direct result of Republican agitation, mobilisation and the looming threats of potential violence.

These decisions are a mistake, and send profound signals that the country should be run on force of numbers and who shouts the loudest.

The framework for both parading and protests now lies in tatters and the rule of law has been fundamentally undermined.

Michelle O'Neill has been perceived to act as a substitute to judges whilst appearing to demand that both the Chief Constable and the Secretary of State do as she demands.

Unionists have watched with increasing anger as they witness the โ€˜do as I say not as I do approachโ€™ of Sinn Fein.

The PSNI must now pursue the evidence of lawbreaking without fear or favour. The investigation must follow the evidence wherever it leads and the PSNI must be transparent and keep the public informed of each step in the investigation. Those who have broken the law must be held to account.

The Secretary of State is going to have to explain what his Government intends to do to restore confidence in the rule of law.

We will not allow Sinn Fein or the actions of violent republicans to be rewarded by a crisis that would punish the law-abiding majority of people in Northern Ireland rather than those responsible for wrongdoing and orchestrating mob-rule.

There are those within unionism who would have us abandon our responsibilities, walk away from government and surrender the mandate entrusted to us by the electorate. They would urge us to hand all power to the UK Government and the Secretary of State with unionism having no influence and no plan for how it achieves its objectives.

We will not sacrifice the stability of Northern Ireland and plunge it into a further crisis which would allow Sinn Fein an escape route from spotlight and accountability.

Recent days and weeks have demonstrated that there would be no place for anyone with the faintest sense of a British identity in a so-called New Ireland. The scenes of Michelle Oโ€™Neill and Mary Lou McDonald will live long in the minds of anyone with a British identity. No one will not be lulled into such folly.

For two weeks, Republicans have played to the gallery and their New Ireland project lies in tatters. Their disdain and disrespect for unionists has been properly exposed.

The Speaker accepted Phillip Brett MLAโ€™s Urgent Oral Question to the First Minister for 3.30pm. When the time came, Oโ€™Neill was absent.

Proceedings were suspended for 15 minutes while officials tried to establish what was happening. When the Assembly resumed, she was still not there.

MLAs have a right to hold the First Minister to account in the Chamber. This is contempt for that scrutiny.

DUP Leader Rt. Hon. Gavin Robinson MP has led a delegation, including Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart and MLAs Jonathan Buckley and Diane Dodds, to meet the Parades Commission about Portadown Districtโ€™s notified procession.

โ€œWe made clear that this notification deserves a fresh and lawful assessment.

Portadown District has proposed a peaceful procession of 60 men, without bands or music.

The Commission must assess that proposal on its own facts and give clear reasons for its decision.

The recent court ruling exposed serious failures in the Commissionโ€™s handling of Drumcree. This unlawful conduct lies solely at the feet of the Commission.

People are entitled to express opposition to a parade. They are not entitled to a veto over the peaceful exercise of someone elseโ€™s rights. Equally, everyone involved has a responsibility to act lawfully.

We urged the Commission to consider the organisersโ€™ proposals and the rights of all those affected.

After 28 years, Drumcree needs a credible route towards resolution. This decision is an opportunity to show that the Commission can approach it with fairness and independence.โ€

Carla Lockhart MP said:

โ€œFor us, this is a straightforward question of law. If the correct legal tests are applied, this is not a close-call. The outcome ought to be inevitable. All the contrived noise and bombastic rants from Sinn Fein do not in fact address the legal tests to be applied.

This is not about the Commission adopting a โ€˜wisdom of Solomonโ€™ approach. Apply the correct legal tests, feed it in to the metaphorical legal computer and only one answer comes out.

We expect a positive determination, correcting a historic wrong.โ€

๐ŸŽ‰ A wonderful morning celebrating 100 years of Euston Street Primary School and Nursery Unit at its centenary tea party on Thursday!

It was great to take part in the schoolโ€™s special podcast in their fantastic Digital Den ๐Ÿ’ป๐ŸŽ™ and to hear former Principal Mr Bell return to address the event, sharing memories of his time at the school and the immense pride he still has in it.

A fantastic celebration of the pupils, staff and generations of families who have made Euston Street such a special school. Hereโ€™s to the next 100 years! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

There are serious questions for the hundred people who all squeezed into the toilet the night Robert McCartney was murdered

Parliament has voted decisively against the Assisted Dying Bill.
There were many superb contributions, including from Carla Lockhart MP for Northern Ireland.

Today's vote brings an end to the Private Members Bill, and the threat of the Parliament Act.

We also want to thank the many campaigners and constituents who contacted us, shared their concerns and played their part throughout this campaign.
