We have been pleasantly surprised by the feedback from our series of presentations made to schools in the Antrim area about the dangers of e-scooters. As a result more schools are requesting the presentation. We are also presenting it to a large group of parents via Webex tomorrow night. We are getting the message out there.

🚨 PARENTS AND GUARDIANS: PLEASE THINK BEFORE BUYING AN E-SCOOTER

An e-scooter might be on your child’s Christmas wish list, but children and young people are suffering serious injuries while riding them. What looks like an exciting present can have devastating consequences for a child and their family.
At Road Safe NI Charity, we are urging parents across Northern Ireland to consider the risks before buying. E-scooters are motorised vehicles, and riders have little protection when they fall or become involved in a collision. Pedestrians can also be seriously injured.

Please know the rules in Northern Ireland:
āŒ No riding on public roads.ļæ½āŒ No riding on pavements or public footpaths.ļæ½āŒ No riding in cycle lanes.ļæ½āœ… Private land only, with the landowner’s permission.

Being legal to buy does not make an e-scooter legal to ride in public. This includes journeys to school, the shops or a friend’s house. Illegal use can lead to police action and seizure.
A helmet does not make public use legal, and it cannot remove the risk of serious injury.
šŸŽ Choose a safer gift this Christmas. Your child’s safety is worth more than the surprise under the tree.
Please share this message with other parents. A conversation before buying could prevent a lifetime of regret.
šŸ’ššŸ’™ Every journey matters. Every choice matters.

We are appealing for information in relation to a hit and run RTC.

At approximately 14.55hrs, on Tuesday 20th October 2026, a white Vauxhall Corsa was driving across Finaghy Crossroads from Finaghy Road North to Finaghy Road South, when a blue van was turning right from Finaghy Road North onto the Upper Lisburn Road, colliding with the Corsa’s rear passenger door and wing mirror.

The blue van did not stop to exchange details.
Police are currently checking CCTV in the area.

If you are the driver of the blue van, are a business owner where someone drives a blue van for you which is now damaged on the nearside, or you were in the area and have dash cam or witnessed the collision, please contact police using our Witness Appeal Form at: https://orlo.uk/GZvYx - quoting police ref. 1109 of 20/10/26, or phone us on 101.

The driver of the Corsa would like to exchange insurance details or have the damage paid for.

Halloween should be a safe and enjoyable time for everyone; however, we often see an increase in reports of anti-social behaviour at this time of year.

Most people are responsible, but we need to be considerate of others. Remember, what might seem like harmless fun to some, may actually feel like anti-social behaviour to others.

Officers will be conducting patrols to ensure everyone is enjoying their Halloween safely.

If you have any concerns about anti-social behaviour happening in your community, you can contact us online at https://orlo.uk/rnmhD or call 101.

Always dial 999 in an emergency.
