šŸ’š HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO BESS SAUNDERS! šŸ’š

A fantastic result for the Green Party in the borough by-election for Kilburn, Denby, Holbrook and Horsley! šŸŽ‰

Bess will be a brilliant councillor – hardworking, approachable and committed to listening to residents and standing up for the issues that matter to our communities. She will make sure local people have a voice.

This win is also a testament to the incredible hard work of our Green team. From door-knocking and delivering leaflets to talking to residents and getting out the vote, so many people gave their time, energy and enthusiasm to make this happen. šŸ’š

Thank you to every volunteer, every supporter and everyone who voted and put their trust in Bess and the Green Party.

Congratulations, Bess – we can’t wait to see you get started! šŸŒ»šŸ’š

šŸ“° Reform-run Derbyshire County Council doesn’t like the questions, so it’s decided not to answer them. The party has stopped engaging with local democracy reporter Eddie Bisknell.

Their reason? They say they’ve ā€œlost confidenceā€ in his reporting.

The row that triggered this started with a story about an 81-year-old woman who took the council to court and won. The council was given almost 24 hours to respond. But Deputy leader Stephen Reed initially said it was just four hours. šŸ¤”

He has since admitted that was wrong.

And the council’s response?

Not to explain the story or to provide evidence of the alleged inaccuracies. Or simply to answer the journalist’s questions.

Just stop engaging with him. āŒ

They insist it isn’t a ban. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

They’ve simply decided that when this particular journalist asks them questions, they won’t answer.

And this isn’t the first time Reform has tried this. Reform-run Nottinghamshire County Council pulled the same stunt with local reporters last year.

Because scrutiny is apparently something Reform really believes in. Just not when it’s pointed in their direction.

You can’t run a council with millions of pounds of public money and then decide you only want to deal with journalists who make you look good.

And if you think that this is fine because you support Reform, consider this…

What would happen if the boot were to be on the other foot? If it was a Labour or Lib Dem council blocking scrutiny. Because this kind of behaviour sets a precedent.

And next time it might be your questions that go unanswered… šŸ‘€

Great to see so many Green volunteers out on the doorstep across Kilburn, Denby, Holbrook and Horsley. šŸ’š

We’ve been having some really positive conversations with residents, including people who value the work of their local Green councillor and want to see our local environment protected.

There’s a strong community voice across these villages — and we’ll keep listening, talking and taking local concerns forward.

If you’d like to join us , either delivering leaflets or door knocking drop us a message.

Bess Saunders is the Green candidate for the October 8th by-election.

šŸ“£ Ada Belfield has been sold!

So, Ada Belfield care home is being transferred into the private sector. Is this really something we’re supposed to celebrate?

You might think so if you read the publicity coming from the Conservatives and Reform. Apparently, selling off a care home built at a cost of £11.5 million to taxpayers is being presented as some kind of success.

Far from it.

When you take care provision out of public control, you remove the lowest-cost provider from the market. The inevitable consequence is pressure for higher fees. And that’s before we consider the pressure placed on staff costs and conditions in order to protect private profit margins.

Ada Belfield was built with £11.5 million of public money. It should be providing high-quality care as a public asset, not being handed over to private interests.

Well done to Belper Together for trying to prevent this from happening.

But please, Reform and Conservatives , don’t try to tell us this is a success.

It isn’t. It’s the loss of a valuable public asset and another step towards putting profit before public service.

Great work from the volunteers working to get All Saints Church in Mackworth rebuilt and back into community use šŸ””

I was privileged to join a small 'hard hat' visit to All Saints Church in Mackworth, to see how the rebuilding work is going. A huge amount has been done but there's still a very long way to go.
Once finished, the church will provide a lovely venue for a wide range of community events, as well as religious services.
I congratulate the team of volunteers whose hard work and dedication has brought the project this far and I'm impressed by the expert work of Croft Building & Conservation who are repairing this historic building. Many thanks to all for hosting today's visit.

Great job by the Denby footpaths vounteers with support from funding Cllr Lian Pizzey's community fund. This will make a real difference in the winter!

šŸŖ We've been busy this morning improving a section of Lady Lane šŸŖ
We received a grant from the DCC Community Members Fund which funded the materials. Thanks to Cllr Lian Pizzey 😊 All the labour was provided by our wonderful volunteers šŸ’Ŗ

šŸ’š Meet Bess Saunders, our Green Party candidate for Kilburn, Denby, Holbrook & Horsley

After decades working in the NHS, Bess has seen first-hand the pressure on our public services. Now she’s ready to stand up for our local communities and make sure residents’ voices are heard.

Bess has been knocking on doors and talking to residents across Kilburn, Denby, Holbrook and Horsley to find out what matters most to residents.

One message has come through loud and clear: people are deeply concerned about development on our countryside — particularly the impact of solar farms, new electricity pylons and housing developments.

🌱 Bess will make sure local people have a strong voice on these issues.

This by-election is your chance to choose a councillor who will listen, speak up and stand up for our communities.

šŸ’š Vote Green on October 8th
