Out and about in Cottingham this morning delivering 2026 Hull North and Cottingham Health Survey’s.

🌹 I’m delighted that I, Councillor Carolyn Cantrell - Cottingham South Ward, ERYC have been selected as Labour’s candidate for Cottingham South alongside my Labour Party Colleague, Kevin Casson, in next May’s East Riding Council elections.

Cottingham is where I went to school, worked and ran a business and it’s still my home. Representing our community means a great deal to me. From conversations on the doorstep to helping with individual concerns, it’s a privilege to work alongside residents to make our village a better place.

We will continue listening, raising your concerns and working hard for everyone in Cottingham South, whichever way you vote.

Thank you for your continued support — and if you see us out and about, please come and say hello!

Everyone deserves dignity, compassion and respect in later life.

On Friday, I met residents and staff at Poppy Dementia Support Centre, and saw that in action.

As we build a new era of care, we must create a system that values older people, supports families and gives everyone confidence about later life.

So we're going to build a National Care Service. Care that starts in the home, that is free at the point of use. Care that's about people, not profit.

For too long, we've been told that fixing social care is too difficult. I don't accept that.

This is about giving people the support they need, when they need it, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing they'll be cared for with dignity and respect.

And I won't stop until it's fixed.

At today’s Full Council, I asked what action is being taken to tackle racism and ensure everyone feels safe and welcome in the East Riding.

The question followed conversations with ethnic minority residents, including staff working in our local hospitals. It was upsetting to hear about the racism they have experienced and how unsafe some now feel.

Castle Hill Hospital and Hull Royal Infirmary benefit enormously from their ethnic minority staff, who care for our families every day. They deserve to feel safe and respected, both at work and in the community as everyone does.

I welcomed the portfolio holder’s agreement that racism would not be tolerated. There is absolutely no excuse for it, and those words must be backed by action.

If you experience or witness racist abuse, threats or harassment, please report it to Humberside Police on 101 or through their website. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999. Nobody should have to put up with racism.

Andy Burnham has been PM for a couple of months now so I want to know how Hull West and Haltemprice residents think he’s doing, what policies they’ve liked and what policies they hope to see!
