November’s certainly hit the ground running!

After a particularly busy 27 hours at the end of October, November seems to have decided to carry on in much the same vein!

At 13:33 this afternoon, we were tasked alongside colleagues from HM Coastguard - Hastings and HM Coastguard Rye Bay to assist Sussex Police with a fairly large-scale search for a missing person centred around Hastings.

Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat was also tasked, undertaking a shoreline search between their base and Rock-a-Nore.

Thankfully, there was a positive outcome, with the person eventually located safe and well.

We’d barely had time to get home and put the kettle on when, at 17:30, we were tasked again, this time to an incident near Eastbourne Pier. Fortunately, this was also resolved safely and we were stood down whilst en route.

A huge thank you to all our fellow search and rescue colleagues involved in both incidents.

So, that’s two more taskings within 4 hours on the first day of November, following a rather hectic end to October.

We’re now slightly on tenterhooks… because, as they say, these things come in threes! 😳

A reminder: If you see someone in difficulty around the coast, please don’t hesitate to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Have you seen Bailey who has been reported missing from Bexhill?

The 14-year-old was last seen in Worthing on the morning of 24 October.

Bailey is 5'9" with curly brown hair and was last seen wearing a grey Nike tracksuit, grey Nike trainers, and carrying a black cross-body bag.

He also has links to the Littlehampton area.

Anyone who sees Bailey or knows his whereabouts is asked to call 101 and quote serial reference 1696 of 24/10.

The Pager Just Keeps Going! – Tasking Number Four

Well, it’s certainly been a busy 27 hours!

Early this afternoon, we were tasked alongside our colleagues from HM Coastguard - Hastings (HACRT) to reports of a person in the water at St Leonards.

Sussex Police were also in attendance, with RNLI Hastings Lifeboat Station Inshore Lifeboat tasked to assist.

Thankfully, the situation was safely resolved and all teams were stood down.

A big thank you to our colleagues from HACRT, Sussex Police and Hastings Inshore Lifeboat for their assistance.

Four taskings in 27 hours… it’s been quite a spell for the pager! 😅

As always, if you see someone in difficulty around the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

This morning, the Poppy Car, a popular addition to the town's tribute during the season of Remembrance, was unveiled in a short ceremony attended by Deputy Mayor Paul Peters and representatives from both branches of Bexhill's Royal British Legion.

Poppies and other mementoes of remembrance will be on sale in front of the car, which is located next to Bexhill War Memorial, until Remembrance Sunday. You can also attach a poppy to the car itself to pay your own tribute to the fallen.

We will remember them.

💔 UPDATE: Very sad news to report.

Police have confirmed that Angela, who was the subject of a missing person appeal issued on 29 October, has sadly been found deceased.

Her next of kin have been informed.

Our thoughts are with Angela’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

We have now removed the missing person appeal.

A huge thank you to the hundreds of people who shared the appeal and helped spread the word. Your support is greatly appreciated.

RIP Angela. 💔

Third Tasking in Less Than 24 Hours!

It’s suddenly become busy again for the Bexhill Coastguard Rescue Team.

At 06:26 this morning before the kettle had boiled, we were tasked alongside colleagues from Eastbourne Coastguard and Birling Gap Coastguard to assist Sussex Police with a missing person search in Eastbourne.

Thankfully, there was a positive outcome, with the missing person located and in the care of Police and Ambulance colleagues.

With the situation resolved, we were stood down shortly before reaching the scene.

A great outcome, and always good news when a search ends this way.

Our thanks to everyone involved.

A quick reminder: If you see someone who may be in difficulty around the coast, don’t hesitate to report your concerns. Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. It’s always better to report a concern than to walk away wondering.

Three quiet weeks- then two taskings in a morning!

After a relatively quiet three weeks, it all changed this morning as we were tasked twice within the space of a few hours.

Our first tasking was to assist colleagues from HM Coastguard - Hastings and Sussex Police to locate a missing person in Hastings Country Park. Thankfully, the person was located by Police and taken to a place of safety. We remained on scene to provide safety cover.

Then, on our way back to base, we were re-tasked to an incident at Beachy Head. Fortunately, this was resolved quickly by Police, and all Coastguard assets were stood down while still en route.

Two taskings, two incidents resolved, and thankfully positive outcomes.

It just goes to show that things can change very quickly in our world. We might have a few quiet weeks, but we’re always ready to respond when we’re needed.

A big thank you to our colleagues at Hastings CRT and Sussex Police for their work this morning.

A quick reminder: if you’re concerned about someone who may be in difficulty near the coast, please don’t hesitate to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. It’s always better to report a genuine concern than to leave it unchecked.

Stay safe out there! 👋
