The African continent consists of 54 countries and one non self governing country the Western Sahara.

Today shines a light on places that hold natural beauty, the meaning of Africa's heritage, spirit & identity. Let's collectively appreciate Africa's rich legacy.

African World Heritage Day was created in 2015, to draw more global attention to African heritage. This day is an opportunity to highlight the historical places, natural beauty and traditions of Africa.

4 in 10 African heritage sites are marked as endangered. This day provides an opportunity to come together to support and protect conservation and heritage - protecting it for tomorrow.
