Fostering in Birmingham: Supporting Young People on Remand 01/06/2026

A 15-year-old walks into a foster home for the first time.

Head down. Hood up. No eye contact.

A few weeks later, they’re sitting at the table, talking, settling into a routine, starting to feel more like themselves.

This is a very different side of fostering in Birmingham - one that most people don’t realise exists.

It’s called Remand Fostering.

Do you have experience working with children or young people - whether in youth work, education, residential care, policing, probation or fostering - and are you ready for your next challenge?

Join us at our Remand Fostering drop-in event to find out how you could support a young person through a difficult and uncertain time.

This is a specialist, full-time role for people who can offer stability, structure and clear boundaries. You’ll need a spare bedroom, the ability to travel across the city, and the resilience to provide consistent support.

Remand carers receive £937.85 per week, as well as specialist training, therapeutic support, and guidance from a multi-agency team, so you won’t be doing this alone.

Throughout Foster Care Fortnight, we’ve been out in communities, building connections and making sure more people feel included in conversations about fostering

This is what Jo, Recruitment and Assessment Team Manager, said: “I’m supporting fostering by… Strengthening relationships with internal and external partners and reaching our under-represented communities.”

Fostering is about more than what happens at home. It’s also about inclusion, visibility and building strong relationships in the communities we serve so more people feel able to see themselves in fostering and start a conversation.

THIS IS FOSTERING 💛

Tonight’s information event has been postponed.

With Aston Villa celebrating their incredible UEFA Europa League triumph with an open-top bus parade, and due to anticipated road closures and increased traffic across the city, we’ve taken the decision to reschedule.

Congratulations to Aston Villa FC on such a fantastic achievement! 🏆

We’ll be in touch soon with a new date and hope to see you there.
