Just had my 2020 NAFRAR ID card delivered so I can prove to clients that I am a nationally recognized 3rd party accredited Fire Risk Assessor through a UKAS accredited scheme.
Its always nice to know you're in the right hands. Do you know if your fire risk assessment was carried out by a competent professional?

A good example of how effective a fire door can be. The majority of this property was devastated by the fire yet the bedroom remains mostly untouched. This would have given the occupants valuable time to escape or be rescued. Does your landlord have proper fire precautions in place to protect you?

It’s amazing what you can find above a suspended ceiling. Beyond this wall with a big hole in is a staircase which is supposed to offer protection to people escaping a fire. This one would be full of smoke and unusable. Most probably the same as the staircase in Grenfell tower. Any landlords who rent out flats or offices should ensure that they have a proper fire risk assessment to help them stay on the right side of the law

I came across this in a house in multiple occupation this week. Fine for security but what about when there’s just one person in the house and there is a fire in their room? The person exits the room forgetting the key and is then trapped in the house with the only key in a room which is on fire! A suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessment would highlight this. A cheap one might not though! How good is your FRA?
Look out for expert witness testimony from John Priestly at the Grenfell Tower enquiry. In particular he will be testifying about quality of workmanship! This is a key area in smaller landlord owned flats where the landlords are unaware that the work they think is keeping them compliant is actually what will land them in court when the fire spreads rapidly because of poor finishing work. It often looks OK but only an expert will be able to tell you if your building is safe and legal to rent out to tenants.
