Today, we mark D‑Day.

On 6 June 1944, thousands of brave service personnel crossed the English Channel to begin the liberation of Europe. Their courage, sacrifice and determination changed the course of history.

Here in Birmingham, we honour the memory of those who served and those who gave their lives for freedom. We also recognise the contribution of our city - its people, industry and communities.

As Lord Mayor, I invite residents to take a moment of reflection and remembrance today. We remember not only the fallen, but also the values they fought to defend: peace, unity and hope.

Lest we forget.

I had the pleasure of spending time with Joan Langley, a former member of the Royal Air Force, over tea. It was a truly special opportunity to hear her stories and reflect on the dedication and service of those who have served our country.

Moments like this remind us how important it is to recognise and celebrate the experiences of veterans who have contributed so much. Their commitment continues to inspire future generations and strengthen our sense of community.

My thanks to Joan for sharing her time and memories. ☕✨.

It was a privilege to join Eid celebrations across Birmingham and witness the joy, warmth and sense of unity that this special time brings to so many families and communities. Eid marks a time of reflection, gratitude and togetherness following a period of faith and devotion and across our city it is celebrated through prayer, shared meals, charity and community events.

Birmingham is proud to host some of the largest Eid gatherings in the UK bringing thousands of people together in parks, mosques and neighbourhoods to celebrate in a spirit of kindness and inclusion. These moments highlight the strength of our communities and the diversity that makes our city so special.

I would love to hear how you marked this special occasion with your family and friends. 🌙✨

I was delighted to attend the 12th Annual Birmingham Thyagaraja Festival celebrating the rich tradition of Carnatic music and the legacy of Saint Thyagaraja. Organised by ShruthiUK this inspiring event brought together talented performers from across the community showcasing music, dance and creativity rooted in cultural heritage.

The festival plays an important role in supporting young artists encouraging cultural understanding and bringing people together through the power of the arts. It was a joy to see such passion, talent and dedication from performers of all ages in a setting that celebrates both tradition and innovation.

My thanks to everyone involved in organising such a meaningful event. I would love to hear what role music and culture play in your life. 🎶✨

I had the pleasure of joining Polish Heritage Day Birmingham a vibrant celebration of culture, community and tradition. This wonderful event brought together families and organisations from across the city to enjoy music, dance, food and a wide range of activities that showcase the richness of Polish heritage.

Birmingham is proud to be home to a long established Polish community whose contribution continues to enrich our city’s cultural life. Events like this create opportunities to connect, share experiences and celebrate the diversity that makes Birmingham so special.

My thanks to all the organisers, volunteers and performers who made the day so memorable. I would love to hear which cultural celebrations you enjoy most in our city. 🇵🇱✨

I had the pleasure of celebrating the 75th anniversary of Oasis Academy Blakenhale - a school that has supported generations of children and families in Garretts Green.

For decades the academy has provided a nurturing environment focused on learning, wellbeing and personal development, helping young people build confidence, resilience and positive futures.

It was inspiring to see how the academy continues to evolve working alongside the Oasis Community Hub to support families through community activities and outreach that strengthen wellbeing and opportunity beyond the classroom.

My congratulations to pupils, staff families and the wider community on this important milestone. I would love to hear your memories of school life or the teachers who inspired you most. 🎓✨

Today I had the pleasure of welcoming the ICC Women’s trophy as it toured Birmingham ahead of the tournament which kicks off on 12 June at Edgbaston. It was fantastic to see the excitement building across the city as we prepare to host the opening match and welcome teams and fans from around the world. 🏏🎉

This is a brilliant opportunity to celebrate world class cricket right here in Birmingham and to support women’s sport on a global stage. I am looking forward to seeing the atmosphere at Edgbaston and cheering on the players as the tournament begins.

If you haven't got your tickets yet, now is the time to be part of this special moment for our city. 🎟️

Congratulations to Aston Villa on their fantastic victory last night. Today's parade is for friends, fans and families to celebrate the win. However, I look forward to hosting a civic event at a later date that fits in with the Club’s commitments.
