Today we celebrate International Day of Rural Women, a day recognized by the United Nations to honor the women who keep our communities fed, connected, and growing.
Across farms, villages, and rural communities around the world, women play a vital role in agriculture. They plant and harvest crops, raise livestock, manage household food supplies, and often take on the work of keeping family land productive. Their contributions strengthen food security for millions of people, yet they are too often overlooked, under-resourced, and left out of decisions that shape their lives.
Rural development depends on women having equal access to land, credit, training, technology, and markets. When women are empowered, entire communities benefit through better nutrition, stronger local economies, and more resilient futures for the next generation.
So today, let's take a moment to recognize the rural women in our own lives. Whether it is a grandmother who taught you to grow your first vegetables, a farmer who runs a cooperative, or a woman who brings fresh food to her neighbors, their work matters.
We want to hear from you. Who is a rural woman you admire? Share her name and what she has taught you in the comments below, and tag someone who helps keep your community strong.
