Hunwick Primary School

17/10/2026

On Thursday, our Year 3/4 girls' cross-country team will travel to Peterlee to take part in the County Finals, where they will compete against the very best runners from across the county.

Earlier this month, Hunwick Primary took a team of superb runners to Staindrop Academy for the qualifying event. Every pupil performed brilliantly, with some very strong finishes throughout the day. It was especially pleasing to see several children representing the school for the very first time, all of whom showed great determination and enthusiasm.

A special mention must go to Charlie, who produced an outstanding run to finish 3rd in her race. She was closely followed by her teammates, whose excellent performances helped the girls secure 1st place overall. This fantastic team achievement means they have qualified for the County Finals.

We are incredibly proud of all our runners and wish the girls the very best of luck as they represent Hunwick Primary in Peterlee. Well done, everyone! 🏃‍♀️🏅👏

Year 5/6 Football World Cup Success

Our Year 5/6 football team represented Brazil in the recent World Cup tournament against local schools and produced an outstanding performance throughout the competition.

The team dominated the group stage, displaying excellent teamwork, skill, and determination to comfortably progress to the knockout rounds. Their impressive form continued in the semi-final, where they secured another victory to earn a place in the final.

The final was a closely contested match between two talented teams. Our players gave everything, defending superbly and creating chances throughout the game. With just minutes remaining, the opposition managed to score, resulting in a narrow 1-0 defeat.

Although disappointed not to lift the trophy, the team should be incredibly proud of their achievements. Finishing 2nd overall in the tournament is a fantastic accomplishment and reflects their hard work, commitment, and excellent sportsmanship.

Well done to all the players for representing our school so brilliantly. You should be extremely proud of yourselves! 🏆⚽🇧🇷👏

Sycamore's Dyson Project 🧑‍🏫

In DT, we have been looking at the way James Dyson took on a whole process before getting to his final product. We have understood the meaning of sketching and labelling, 3D printing technology, a product specification, PMI models, and we have thought about the same initial idea he did: 'What would I change to make my life easier?' We have started to plan our own thoughts about our classroom, to head toward our structure and building side of the project. We have been fully immersed in the process of becoming a Design Engineer. We could have the next James Dyson, among us!
