A little reminder about checking ID - From time to time, people may visit your home offering to carry out repairs or improvements, such as topping up loft insulation.

If someone visits your home claiming to be working on behalf of Tai Calon, please remember that our colleagues and contractors will always carry identification.

Here are a few simple things to remember:

• Always ask to see their ID before allowing anyone into your home.
• Take a moment to check their identification and who they say they are.
• If you're unsure, don't feel pressured to let anyone in.
• You can always contact us directly to check whether a visit or repair has been arranged.

Your safety and peace of mind are important to us. If you're ever unsure, please get in touch with our team before agreeing to any work or allowing someone access to your home.

🎃 Halloween is nearly here… and we’ve got one final fright for you!

The scariest things in your home this Halloween aren’t ghosts, witches or things that go bump in the night…

They’re unattended candles, overloaded sockets and blocked heaters. 😱

So, before the trick-or-treaters arrive:

🕯️ Check your candles are safely placed and never leave them unattended.
🔌 Check your electrical items and avoid overloading sockets.
🔥 Check your heating is working safely and keep heaters clear.
🎃 Make sure your decorations are safely placed and away from heat sources.

Have fun, stay safe and enjoy Halloween! 👻

And remember, if something in your home needs repairing, don’t leave it until it becomes a real horror story. Get in touch with us and we’ll help where we can.

👻 Is your radiator feeling a little… ghostly?
If it’s cold at the top but warm at the bottom, there could be trapped air inside.
It may need bleeding to help it heat properly.
🛠️ Turn your heating off and let the radiator cool down first.
🧣 Put a cloth or container underneath the bleed valve.
🔧 Slowly turn the bleed valve until you hear air escaping.
💧 When water starts to come out, close the valve.
If you’re not sure what to do, don’t play radiator roulette — get advice or report a repair. 🎃

Celebrating Owen Filler’s incredible 107th birthday! 🎂🎖️Tai Calon was proud to fund and support celebrations for Owen, a remarkable Second World War veteran and Wales’ oldest man, bringing family, fellow veterans and our local communities together to honour his extraordinary life and service.

The celebrations began at Tredegar Veterans Support Hub, with a buffet lunch supported by Tai Calon, before continuing at Brynmawr’s historic Market Hall Cinema Brynmawr. Owen and his daughter received a Military Police es**rt and a red-carpet welcome before enjoying his chosen film, Norman Wisdom’s One Good Turn. 🎬
During the day, Owen shared moving stories from his life, including his wartime service and how SSAFA helped arrange his return home when his father became seriously ill.

❤️ Happy 107th birthday, Owen! We’re honoured to have helped make this special milestone a celebration to remember, recognising a local hero and bringing our communities together.

🎃 Pumpkin carving: 10% creativity, 90% trying not to lose a finger.
Planning to carve a pumpkin this Halloween?
🔪 Take your time and use the right tools.
👨‍👩‍👧 Keep children away from sharp knives.
🕯️ If you’re using a candle, keep it safely inside the pumpkin and away from anything flammable.
And remember… pumpkin soup is much better when it doesn’t come with a side of A&E. 😬

Struggling with energy bills? You’re not alone. We know that keeping your home warm can be difficult when household budgets are stretched. With energy costs putting pressure on many households, you may be worried about heating your home, paying your bills or making sure your family stays comfortable this winter.

There is support available, and we want to help you find it.

Here’s where to start:
💚 Make your home more energy efficient
The Welsh Government’s Nest programme offers free energy-saving advice, and eligible households may be able to access improvements to help make their homes warmer.

💷 Check what financial support you could receive
You may be entitled to benefits or other support you’re not currently claiming. Benefits calculators can help you explore your options.

⚡ Need help with energy bills?
If you’re struggling to top up a prepayment meter or worried about running out of credit, your energy supplier or Citizens Advice may be able to help.

🌿 Worried about damp or mould?
We understand that keeping a home warm can be difficult when money is tight. Condensation, damp and mould can have different causes, and we don’t want you to feel you have to manage these problems alone. If you notice damp, mould or a persistent problem in your home, please let us know so we can work with you to understand what’s happening and what needs to be done.

Find advice and support:
👉 Visit our Energy Support page: https://www.taicalon.org/energy-support/
👉 Explore our Healthy Homes guidance: https://www.taicalon.org/healthy-homes/

If you’re struggling, please don’t suffer in silence. Taking that first step to ask for help can make a difference.
