Out of the classroom and onto the track! 🏃🏁👟

Recently, 11 (RSS) Sig Regt's trainees and permanent staff took part in the Army Inter-Units Athletics Championship held in Aldershot, competing against other units from across the Army.

The women's team secured the overall championship title, with the men's team finishing second overall.

Sport plays a huge role within the Army and this is just one example of our soldiers and officers having the chance to take time away from work to compete, testing their fitness, building camaraderie and most importantly having fun!

Huge well done to everyone who took part -- great effort all round! 👏💪

Trained to train before they've even left Blandford! 🧑‍🏫💂

Last week, McBean Troop delivered the Defence Train The Trainer Course, qualifying 19 trainees who will now be able to instruct immediately once they arrive at their first units.

This strategic initiative addresses delays in instructional qualifications that often occur after soldiers arrive at their units, impacting readiness and operational effectiveness.

Thank you to the following members of Permanent Staff for their phenomenal work:

Cpl Amir Rai (McBean Tp)
Cpl Bowen (McBean Tp)
Cpl Flynn (McBean Tp)
Cpl Cox (Rhino Tp)

Race The Sun 2026! 🌞🏃

Over 360 soldiers from across the Corps travelled up to 2 Signal Regiment in York for the annual multi-discipline competition. 🏆

Our team of Phase 2 trainees and Permanent Staff, led by Sgt Om of 5 Sqn finished in an incredible 3rd place out of 16 teams! 🥉

Events included a half marathon, orienteering, road cycling, tabbing, and the infamous stretcher race. A huge well done to all involved.

What a night! 🥊🔥

Our trainees have been putting in the work for months. Early starts, late finishes, all whilst keeping on top of their trade training. 📡⚡

Last week it paid off at the Regimental Boxing Night. A brilliant night of fights, made possible by some outstanding coaching and mentorship from the permanent staff.

Thanks to Rob Young for the incredible photos and to Forces Mutual for sponsoring the event.

The Green Strongman! 💪🪖

Last week, trainees took part in the first event of the Crowborough Cup, an Inter-Troop competition organised by LCpl Humble, a Physical Training Instructor here at Blandford.

The Green Strongman saw troops go head to head, being assessed on strength and teamwork. Once all four events are complete over the coming months, points will be tallied up and the winning troop shall be crowned Crowborough Champions.

Events such as these are just one example of the opportunities available to trainees as they conduct their training as R SIGNALS soldiers here at Blandford.

Our Network Engineers spend 20 weeks training here at the Royal School of Signals in Blandford. By the time they graduate, they're qualified in military radio systems, computer networking (including Cisco-accredited modules), antenna theory, and hands-on skills like copper cabling and fibre-optic splicing. These are the vital skills that keep the Army connected..

54 miles. 24 hours. Take on the best. Take on the Yomp.

On the 6 - 7 June 2026, 6 members of Permanent Staff within 3 (Harrogate) Squadron are taking on the Cateran Yomp. A 54-mile hike in 24 hours across rural Perthshire.

It’s going to be tough but it will raise vital funds for the Army Benevolent Fund, providing a lifetime of support to soldiers, veterans and their immediate families.

🏔️ 10 Y Fan -- nipped.

Earlier this month, 11 (RSS) Sig Regt's very own Maj Grant Powell (OC 3 Sqn) and friends took on the '10 Y Fan' challenge - Pen y Fan, up and down, 10 (yes, 10!) times, raising money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

Here's what the epic task actually looked like:

🕕 Started 6pm Saturday. Finished 4pm Sunday.
⏱️ 22 hours to complete. 34 hours without sleep.
👣 42 miles. 112,000 steps.
⛰️ 5,500m of climbing.
🔥 10,500 calories burnt.

And most importantly, over £1,300 raised for SSAFA!

Fantastic effort Grant...the only question is, what's the next challenge? 👀

The Supply Chain Operative Initial Trade Training (ITT) is a five-week course delivered at 11 Signal Regiment, Royal School of Signals, in Blandford Forum. During the course, trainees are introduced to the fundamentals of the trade, including Health and Safety practices, an overview of the G4 logistics supply chain, and manual accounting procedures using service forms and publications—particularly in scenarios involving the loss of IT equipment. They also receive instruction in the Tri-Service logistics accounting system and complete the course with training in JAMES (Joint Asset Management and Engineering Solutions) for asset tracking and management.

Upon successful completion of ITT, trainees progress to driver training. They first obtain a Category B (car) driving licence, followed by training for Category C (rigid lorry) and then Category C+E (articulated lorry) licences, enabling them to operate a full range of military logistics vehicles.
