North Sea Link - USV Environmental Survey

Please be advised that on behalf of National Grid Ventures, Fugro is planning to conduct an environmental camera survey in the North Sea from the nearshore limit north of Blyth, (55Β° 09.5’N 001Β° 28.9’ W) and extending offshore to the UK / Norway border. The work will be conducted by the un-manned survey vessel (USV), Blue Eclipse, operated from a remote operations centre in Aberdeen.

Notice to Mariners - Berwick Bank Geophysical Survey - First Issue

Mariners are advised that Berwick Bank Wind Farm Limited (BBWFL) will be returning to the Berwick Bank Wind Farm Area to undertake further geophysical survey work. Please see the attached notice to mariners for further information. The survey will focus upon the southern half of the wind farm area, with an additional survey in the north of the wind farm area. A support vessel will be present to work alongside the survey vessel. Vessels will arrive on site from 04 November 2026 at the earliest.

The survey is anticipated to take approximately 2 weeks. To account for all eventualities including weather delays, we would like to extend the duration of notice validity to 30 November 2026.

🌊 What we got up to in September.

It was another busy month out in the field. Here's a look at some of the work we carried out:

We completed a 2-day survey of the Aln Estuary gathering valuable data on the local environment (thanks to Helen Cowan for the great photos), got involved with a beach clean at Lynemouth helping to keep our coastline clean and protecting the marine environment. We also carried out a drone survey capturing important information out on the River Coquet and an offshore survey.

A busy September with plenty of time spent supporting and monitoring our coastal and marine environments! 🌊 🐟 πŸ¦€

Last week the Fisheries and Seafood Scheme (FaSS) was expanded to allow for grant contributions towards fishing vessel engine and gearbox upgrades.

This is a great opportunity for operators of all sizes to invest in their vessels. The rates of support available are:

- 65% contribution for the Small Scale Coastal Fleet (SSCF) installing new petrol or diesel engines

- 50% contribution for all other vessels installing new petrol or diesel engines

- 90% contribution for electric or hybrid engines, regardless of vessel or business size

🎣 IFCA Webinar Series returns - Northumberland IFCA
Wednesday 30th September | 7pm - 8pm | Online, free

Our IFCA webinar series is back, and we're joined by Northumberland IFCA to talk through the work they do managing and protecting inshore waters on your patch.

England's Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities make decisions that directly affect where, when and how you fish. These sessions are a chance to hear what they're working on, understand how inshore management works, and put your questions to the people making the calls.

Whether you're out on the coast every week or just want to know more about how our inshore seas are looked after, you'll get something out of it.

Got a question you'd like answered? Send it to us in advance at [email protected]
