🔥 Today is National Burns Awareness day.

The first 20 minutes after a burn or scald are important. Knowing the right first aid can help limit the severity of the injury.

Remember: Cool, Call, Cover
💧 COOL the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes
📞 CALL 999 for serious burns or seek medical advice
🩹 COVER the burn loosely with cling film

Share this advice so more people know what to do when a burn happens. For more information visit the Children's Burns Trust website.

86 calls and approximately 292 hours at incidents, put into 20 seconds. 🚨🔥

The last few months have been incredibly challenging for our crew, our service and other services across the country.
Here’s a quick highlight of some of the incidents we’ve attended — from the major incident at Tintwistle to fires in the open, domestic fires, RTCs and everything in between. 🚒

Although things may have calmed down slightly over the last few days following the recent downpours, the busy period isn't over yet.
We are still urging members of the public to think twice before lighting fires or having BBQs.
Despite the recent rainfall, the ground has been exceptionally dry since the start of the heatwave, and the amount of rain we've received is not yet enough to significantly reduce the risk of fire spreading.
Please continue to take extra care and help us prevent unnecessary fires to keep our emergency resources available for those who need them most.

Thank you to the public for your continued support over the last few months and a shoutout to Donna Finlay Hales from Old Bolsover Town Council for providing us with some extra refreshments and snacks last week!

We are recruiting for more people to join our team! Contact us today to register your interest. For more information on the role visit https://www.derbys-fire.gov.uk/careers/become-a-firefighter/on-call-firefighter

🚨 INCIDENT 🚨

At 03:26 hours this morning we were mobilised to provide fire cover at Kingsway Fire Station.

At 05:06, we were mobilised to a domestic fire in Normanton. All occupants were out of the property prior to arrival of appliances and no injuries have been reported.

A BA team from our crew entered the property to discover a fully developed fire in a 1st floor bedroom and loft space. Crews used 1x hose reel jet to extinguish the fire🔥

We are now back at home station and ready for the next call 🚒

A bit of a different incident for us today! 😅

We have been providing fire cover in the Peak District today and were mobilised to a fire within a train tunnel between Grindleford and Totley.

Crews walked the total 5.6km of the tunnel, wearing BA sets to investigate and deal with the incident. Crews worked alongside colleagues, including South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue and Network Rail, to safely manage the incident, which certainly made for a change from the moorland and wildfires we’ve been attending recently!

It’s been another busy week for our crew with a total of 12 fire calls attended so far, but today was a great reminder of the wide variety of incidents we can be called to. 🚒

We never quite know what the next call will bring!👨‍🚒🔥
