📢 Volunteers Required 📢

The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal at Cheadle Royal (John Lewis and Sainsbury's) will be available until Saturday 7 November. Last year, our local residents helped to raise over £67,000 through generous donations to the Poppy Appeal collection at Cheadle Royal and in Hazel Grove. This year, the organisers are desperately short of volunteers to help at the times shown.

Please send an email to [email protected] if you're able to volunteer at the Poppy Appeal collection at John Lewis and/or Sainsbury's (Cheadle Royal), between Monday 26 October and Friday 6 November. Thank you to our residents who have already offered to help and to our residents who are considering helping following this post.

Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army and Royal Air Force veterans, guided by John Tasker and ably assisted by Jamat Ali, have, over the weekend, placed poppies and silhouettes of Remembrance Soldiers at locations throughout the village. The Heald Green Remembrance Parade will take place at Long Lane War Memorial, Wilmslow Road, at 1200 hrs on Sunday 8th November 2026.

📢 Ratepayers Roundup

We're always busy with multiple activities, both our committee of volunteers and our councillors are always working hard for Heald Green ward, some updates on recent activities :

• Monthly Association meeting took place on Wed 7th Oct 26.
• All village defibrillators checked and confirmed to central checking.
• John Tasker was appointed Ratepayer's Armed Forces Champion.
• Cllrs Charles-Jones and Stuart attended an in person briefing on Dementia Friends which Cllr Charles-Jones had requested Democratic Services arrange, sadly only three of the 63 councillors were in attendance so Cllr Charles-Jones and Cllr Wise (leader of the Labour Group) are looking to table a session as part of a future meeting of the full council.
• Cllr Stuart attended the online briefing regarding the Stockport Station upgrade, and shared information about it.
• Cllr Stuart attended Adult Social Care and Health Scrutiny Committee on Thursday. A report that she had requested on Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), which are put in place when people lack mental capacity and are in settings they are unable to leave, was brought to the committee. This follows a recent change in case law. The report caused a lot of discussion. Ultimately it may mean less DoLS will need to be put in place, meaning less disruption for families, the council has changed practice to reflect the changes whilst the government develops new guidance.
• Cllr Stuart attended a two day ‘Next Generation Councillor’ training in Warwick run by the Local Government Association.
• Cllr Charles-Jones attended the group leaders’ meeting last week.
• Cllr Charles-Jones attended a Bus Network Development Workshop with TfGM colleagues where she raised several local routes that need improving.
