Members of the public may have noticed a significant police presence on the A35 just outside Bridport earlier today.

Officers from Bridport Neighbourhood Policing Team sighted a vehicle that had been reported stolen and, working alongside Dorset Police's No Excuse Team and Roads Policing Unit, brought the vehicle to a safe and compliant stop.

Thanks to the coordinated response of officers, the vehicle was stopped safely without any damage being caused and, most importantly, without injury to any members of the public, road users or officers involved.

A male was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and has been transported to police custody. The force investigating the original theft will now be making arrangements to collect the male and continue their enquiries.

This incident demonstrates the value of partnership working across policing teams and our continued commitment to tackling criminality, protecting our communities and keeping our roads safe.

We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while officers dealt with the incident.

Officers from Bridport Neighbourhood Policing Team have been carrying out enquiries and proactive patrols across the area this evening, focusing on safeguarding vulnerable people, tackling offending and providing a visible presence within our communities.

The shift began with officers carrying out a welfare check in Lyme Regis, ensuring appropriate support was in place for a person requiring assistance. Safeguarding vulnerable members of our community remains one of our key priorities, and we will always seek to ensure those in need receive the help and support available to them.

Officers then conducted a home visit to an individual known to have previously come to police attention in relation to knife carrying. These visits are an important part of our ongoing work to prevent crime, manage risk, and engage with individuals to deter future offending.

Other officers stopped a panel van and seized the vehicle after establishing it was being driven otherwise than in accordance with a licence and without valid insurance.

Patrols were also carried out on foot throughout Bridport town centre and local parks, providing a visible policing presence and targeting alcohol and drug-related offending. Officers engaged with members of the public, offering reassurance and ensuring our public spaces remained safe and welcoming for everyone.

Road safety remained a focus throughout the evening, with a driver being issued with a ticket requiring them to produce their driving documents following insurance enquiries.

The evening was rounded off with officers engaging positively with car enthusiasts in West Bay. These conversations are an important part of community policing, helping us build relationships, address concerns, and ensure everyone can enjoy the area responsibly.

From safeguarding vulnerable people and tackling road traffic offences to conducting patrols and community engagement, Bridport NPT remains committed to protecting our communities and addressing the issues that matter most to residents.

Yesterday afternoon, officers from the Bridport Neighbourhood Policing Team arrested a male, in his late 40's, outside an address in East Street, Bridport.

The arrest came after the male repeatedly returned to the address despite being told not to do so by both the occupant and attending police officers. Following further enquiries, the male was arrested and taken into police custody. The male has been bailed to allow for further investigation into the offence.

Thank you to members of the public for your continued support and cooperation. If you witness crime or anti-social behaviour, please continue to report it to us so that we can take appropriate action.
