We were gutted to see Shannon leave The Great British Bake Off tent last night, but what a memorable journey it’s been. ✨

In the latest episode for 'Audience Choice Week', we saw her signature Baileys cheesecake and beautiful gingerbread fairy wing showstopper. Shannon brought creativity, determination and plenty of brilliant baking to the competition and we loved cheering her on every step of the way.

Congratulations, Shannon, and thank you for making us all so proud. 👏

While Type 26 HMS Belfast takes shape in Glasgow, the Royal Navy have named her sponsor.... The Countess of Antrim. 🇬🇧

The Countess recently visited BAE Systems Govan shipyard to see the ship's progress first-hand. Highlights from her visit included:

🚢 Getting an early glimpse of HMS Belfast under construction.

🚢 Meeting the dedicated team building the ship.

🚢 Hearing from senior Royal Navy and industry representatives about the wider shipbuilding programme which is overseen by the NAD Group.

She will stay closely connected to HMS Belfast throughout her life, attending key milestones from commissioning to future deployments alongside her crew.

🌟Inspirational Leader award 🌟

Congratulations to Alexis Field who won the Inspirational Leader award in this year’s Inspiring Women in Construction and Engineering Awards.

The awards showcase the incredible role models working across the sectors, while also highlighting how organisations are striving to improve diversity and empower women in the industry.

Alexis has felt supported in her career development during her time within our Defence Infrastructure Organisation. She said:

🗣️ “DIO has been the perfect place for me to flourish. The sense of purpose is core to what we do, and that resonates with me. The DIO way is to support one another and work together through tough times, making amazing things happen.

“I also believe that DIO has a culture which lets you be yourself; you can be the type of leader you want to be, the delivery person you want to be. I value this as it means that I can get things done and be myself – which ultimately achieves greater results.

“We deliver things that are really special, which is unlike many other public sector bodies; this access to opportunities is unlike any other. The thing we often miss is celebrating what we do, and how we do it. Let’s take more time to recognise our colleagues and the great work we do, awards are a very special way of doing that.”

Shannon, a project planner and scheduler in the NAD Group, took her place in the iconic Bake Off tent and showed that her talents extend far beyond.

We're incredibly proud to see her on such a well-loved programme. Well done, Shannon! 👏

During the summer months, the UK's Military Working Horses enjoyed a well-deserved trip to the beach. 🌊☀️

From protecting The King to spectacular Parades, after a busy period of duty, soldiers and horses from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment spent the day at Hayling Island Beach.

Behind the scenes, we provide specialist equipment and support to ensure our armed forces are always ready, both on parade and beyond.

🚀85 apprentices. Five days. Talent and innovation in action.

The Defence Academy in Shrivenham was buzzing last week as apprentices from across the UK Ministry of Defence came together for the annual Tom Nevard Memorial Competition.

Challenges included building pedal-powered quad bikes from recycled bike parts, cyber security tasks, and manufacturing a scale model Sten Mark II submachine gun using traditional techniques.

Apprentice Katie Vara said: “The best part was seeing all the hard work come together, knowing it was the result of problem-solving, creativity and teamwork.”

Huge congratulations to everyone who took part in the competition, which has been running since 1952. 🙌

Bringing together the pioneers of tomorrow. 🚀

Last month, some of our Apprentices and Graduates linked up with their counterparts from AtkinsRéalis at the Farnborough International Airshow for a day of sharing advice, swapping stories, and building genuine connections. From networking skills and psychological safety sessions to practical challenges, they got a real taste of the wider defence and aerospace industries.

Jo Osburn-Hughes, our Director of People, gave them a powerful call to action: get out there, build your network, and learn from the people around you.

This marks the beginning of true partnerships and the next generation of talent across Defence, working together to shape what's next. 🌟
