🌺 THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION POPPY APPEAL IS HERE! 🌺

We’re pleased to share that the Royal British Legion (RBL) has officially launched this year’s Poppy Appeal, and we’re inviting our local community to get involved and show their support. ❀️

🌺 GET YOUR POPPY FROM OUR RECEPTION

You can collect your poppy from our reception, Monday to Friday, between 9am–12pm and 1pm–3pm.

Every poppy worn is a small but meaningful way to show that we remember, we recognise and we care.

❀️ WHY DOES YOUR SUPPORT MATTER?

The Royal British Legion provides vital support to serving and ex-serving members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families. Through its work, the RBL helps people facing a range of challenges, including financial hardship, physical and mental health difficulties, recovery and the transition to civilian life.

Money raised through the Poppy Appeal helps the Legion continue its work, ensuring that those who have served our country, and their loved ones, can access support when they need it.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps make a difference. Thank you for supporting the Poppy Appeal and helping us remember those who have served and sacrificed so much. 🌺

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY PARADE – 8 NOVEMBER

We’re also looking ahead to this year’s Remembrance Parade on Sunday 8 November, when our community will come together to honour and remember all those who have served, those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and the families who continue to live with the consequences of conflict.

πŸ”— Further details about this year’s parade will be available on our website: https://www.brixhamtowncouncil.gov.uk/council_events/remembrance-parade-service-brixham-2026/

πŸ₯ CAN YOU HELP US MAKE THIS YEAR’S PARADE SPECIAL?

We’re still looking for two important additions to our parade:

πŸ₯ A Drummer – to help maintain the marching pace and keep our parade moving together.

🎢 A Bagpiper – to provide the traditional and moving sound of the pipes during our act of remembrance.

Despite contacting five pipers, we have unfortunately been unable to secure one so far. We’re therefore reaching out to our wonderful community to see if anyone can help!

If you’re a drummer or bagpiper, know someone who might be available, or can recommend a local musician, we would love to hear from you.

πŸ“ž Please contact our office by phone, 01803 859678 or email: [email protected], if you can help or would like further information.

Let’s come together as a community to support our Armed Forces family, honour our fallen and ensure that we will remember them.

🌺 Thank you for your continued support.

Lest We Forget.

⚠️ Planning ahead doesn't make you a pessimist. It helps you be prepared.

Devon County Council has recently shared important information about planning for emergencies such as power cuts, flooding and severe weather events.

With Storm Austen expected to bring challenging weather conditions this week, it's a timely reminder that emergencies can happen when we least expect them. A little preparation now can make a big difference later.

The Local Resilience Forum's Emergency Preparedness Booklet is packed with practical advice to help you and your household prepare for a range of emergencies and know what to do if one occurs. It covers topics including flooding, severe weather, power outages, water supply disruption, fires, transport incidents, evacuation and more.

We encourage all residents and visitors to take a few minutes to read the booklet, make some simple preparations and keep it somewhere easy to find. Being prepared can help you, your family and your community stay safe.

🌿 Protecting and enhancing Brixham’s green spaces 🌳

We’re pleased to share that Brixham Town Council has completed the transfer of land at Penn Meadows, bringing it into Town Council ownership alongside Wishings Field, the registered Village Green purchased by the Council in 2023.

This is another important step towards our long-term vision of protecting and enhancing local green spaces for the benefit of our community and local wildlife. 🌱

Bringing the two sites together under local stewardship creates opportunities for a more joined-up approach to managing the area, including the potential to extend accessible routes, improve access to nature and enhance wildlife habitats.

Our aspiration is to see both sites managed as welcoming natural environments for residents and visitors to enjoy, while protecting biodiversity for future generations.

A thank you to Torbay Council for its positive engagement throughout the asset transfer process.
